Complete Episode Guide: Episode 3x5, The Cost of Living Guide
The Cost of Living Theories
- I think some of Ben's manipulation of Jack is because he is jealous over the relationship between Jack and Juliet.
- When Eko went to check on the miracle girl, he found out that she was thought to be dead, but then woke during the autopsy (Ep: 2x21, ?). Perhaps this happened to Colleen (and maybe Christian Shepard, too). Why else would Ben want Jack to see the funeral? The only other reason I can think of is that he wants to flex his power over Juliet.
Observations from The Cost of Living
- When Eko saw the alter boy, Daniel, in the jungle, Daniel shushed him and then said something Eko couldn't understand, just like Walt had done with Shannon before Shannon was killed. (Update: Eko probably could understand, it's just me that couldn't understand. Thanks to Doug for pointing out that Daniel said, "Confess.")
- Eko was building the church on the island (Ep: 2x18, Dave) to make up for Yemi's church, which they had to close because it was no longer sacred after Eko killed the thugs.
- "Free will" theme - Locke tells Hurley that anyone can come along with him because it's a free island. Juliet tells Jack that he has a choice, "Free will is all we've really got, Jack."
- Locke told Desmond, "Don't mistake coincidence for fate," just like Eko had told Locke after Eko gave Locke the pieces to the Orientation film that he had found on the other side of the island. As they spliced the film together, Locke wondered at the odds of the two of them crashing on different parts of the island, finding each other, and having two parts of the same film. Eko replied with "Don't mistake coincidence for fate." (Ep: 2x9, What Kate Did).
- Ben admits to Juliet looking like Sarah (see: The Blondes of Lost).
