"Live Together, Die Alone" Theories

from Around the Web

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Complete Episode Guide: Episode 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone

Here's some theories that we've come up with (thanks John, Matt, Erik, Andrew, Just_Twan, and Rae):

  • I think the Pearl is in place as a cover. So that if The Swan hatch is discovered, or if the inhabitants wonder what they are doing there, Dharma can explain The Swan as a human experiment, even though that’s not what it is.
  • Maybe Locke and Libby’s husband were on the balcony that gave way when Hurley stepped onto it…. It would explain why both Hurley and Libby were distraught in the mental hospital at the same time. It would explain how Locke became paralyzed.
  • The Others keep biting the dust. Once again an Other gets killed - for the crime of following too close? Our Lostaways really are the Bad Guys - shoot first, ask questions…never.
  • When Penny finds Desmond in the stadium he is surprised that she was able to track him down. She says “With enough money and determination you can find anyone.” Perhaps she found Desmond and knew he was on the island, but had no way of getting to him until the electromagnetic field went down, so she paid people to keep an eye on it and now that it’s down, she can get to Desmond.
  • As for Michael and Walt, I would guess that the device which gives the ship its bearings is magnetic. Non-Henry gave them the bearing, which, in the existing magnetic field, would have taken them to rescue. Except the magnetic field on the island has changed, because the powerful field from the Swan hatch is no longer active. If so, that bearing will no longer take them to rescue, but will probably end up bringing them back to the island.
  • Is it too far of a stretch to think that maybe the “mystical” part of the island and the “Others” are not related?
  • At the end, when Jack nods and Kate blinks, I think it’s because they have a plan. I think Sawyer is in on it too. I think the beginning of next season we will see them carry out their plan.
