- Episode 4x1, The Beginning of the End
Matthew Abaddon comes to the mental institution to talk to Hurley. He claims to be an attorney for Oceanic Airways and wants to upgrade Hurley to a better facility. Hurley gets suspicious when Matthew asks about other people on the island. He asks for a business card, but Matthew doesn't have one. Hurley calls for the nurse saying that Matthew is after him. - Episode 4x2, Confirmed Dead
In a flashback, Matthew Abaddon gives Naomi instructions to take a team (of four people who she doesn't believe in) to the island. She asks what happens if there are survivors of Flight 815 and he says there aren't any. She says she knows, but what if there are? He tells her to just do her job, get those people in and out without any of them getting killed, and don't ask questions. - Episode 4x11, Cabin Fever
In Locke's flashback, Matthew is an orderly while Locke goes through physical therapy. Matthew tells Locke not to give up. He tells him to go on a Walkabout. Matthew says that when he went on his Walkabout he thought he was one thing, but came back another. He tells Locke that the next time they meet, Locke will owe him. - Episode 5x7, The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham
Working for Widmore, Matthew Abaddon drives Locke around. He takes him to see Sayid, but Sayid doesn't come with them. He takes him to see Walt and comments on how big Walt has gotten, and then asks Locke why he didn't invite Walt to come with them. Locke says that the boy has been through enough. After seeing Hurley, Matthew points out that he's seen three people and yet he hasn't gotten any of them to go back to the island.Locke wants to know what Matthew does for Charles Widmore and he says that he gets people where they need to be. Locke remembers Matthew as the orderly who told him to go on the Walkabout just after his father pushed him out the window, paralyzing him.
Locke insists Matthew take him to see Helen. He finally takes Locke to the cemetery and tells him that Helen had a brain aneurysm. While Locke sits in the back seat of the car, and Matthew puts his wheelchair away, Matthew is shot and killed. Locke jumps in the front seat and speeds away.
