After she is on the run, Kate goes to see Sergeant Sam Austen and asks him why he never told her that Wayne was her real father. He tells her he has to call the authorities, but agrees to give her an hour head start. - Episode 2x14, One of Them
Sergeant Austen takes Sayid to where Sayid's commanding officer is and asks him to translate. He has Sayid ask questions of his officer, but Sayid says that he doesn't know where the helicopter pilot is. Sergeant Austin goes with the other soldiers when they let Sayid go after he got answers through torture.
