Claire visited Richard Malkin because her friend wanted to take her to a psychic. He took her hands, asked her how long she'd known about the baby, and then acted scared, gave her money back, and said he couldn't do the reading.Claire went back to him after Thomas left her and begged for another reading. He told her that it was important that she raise the child herself. He was upset when she said she would give the baby up for adoption and he kept calling her, telling her she needed to raise the baby.
Towards the end of her pregnancy, Richard convinced her to give the baby up for adoption in L.A., thereby putting her on Flight 815.
