When Sayid walks toward him on his farm on the island, he shoots Sayid in the arm. He acts as if he thinks Sayid is one of the Others. Then acts as if he believes that Sayid, Kate, and Locke are not part of the Others.
He takes them into his home and introduces himself as Mikhail Bakunin. He explains that he is the last remaining member of the Dharma Initiative.

Sayid knows that he is lying and that he is really part of the Others, so he captures him. Sayid and Kate go down below and find The Flame Station. Ms. Klugh is inside. They bring her up and find that Mikhail has captured Locke.

Mikhail and Ms. Klugh argue in Russian, then Mikhail shoots Ms. Klugh at her insistence.

Mikhail says he will never lead them to the Others' camp, but Sayid says they don't need him because he has a map that he found in the station.

Rousseau suggests they kill Mikhail, but Sayid says that Mikhail is his prisoner and he will decide what happens to him.

  • Episode 3x12, Par Avion
Mikhail is Sayid's prisoner. He treks with them through the jungle with his hands tied behind his back. He tells them that he was brought to the island on a submarine, but that two weeks ago they had lost communications so if they left the island, they would never find their way back.

Kate wonders why anyone would want to come back to the island and he tells her that she could never understand because she is not on the list. She is flawed, weak, and frightened.

They find pylons and Sayid guesses it's a security perimeter and he wants to go around it. Mikhail says that he's correct that it's security, but it hasn't worked in years and there is no way around it. Sayid doesn't believe him.

Locke grabs Mikhail and throws him between two pylons. Electric pulses go through Mikhail and he dies of a cerebral hemorrhage.

  • Episode 3x16, One of Us
In Juliet's flashback, Ben takes her to see Mikhail. In The Flame Station, Mikhail is monitoring several TVs. He reports to Ben about Oceanic Flight 815 and tells Ben that he is already working on putting together files for all the passengers and crew of the flight.
  • Episode 3x18, D.O.C.
Turns out Mikhail is not dead after all. He comes running out of the jungle and seems startled to see Hurley, Desmond, Charlie, and Jin with the parachute girl.

He runs, but Jin catches him and Desmond asks who he is. Charlie knows that he's the man who shot Sayid from The Flame Station.

Mikhail says he will help parachute girl as long as they let him go as if they had never seen him. Desmond agrees and Mikhail helps her, then leaves. He steals the phone, but Jin gets it back. Then he is allowed to leave, even though Charlie doesn't think they should let him go.

  • Episode 3x20, The Man Behind the Curtain
Mikhail runs into camp yelling for Ben. He sees Locke and asks what Locke is doing there. Ben says that Locke is one of them. Mikhail says that some of Locke's people found a woman who parachuted on to the island. And they probably took her back to their camp.

Ben says they will be there in a day and a half and they will take care of it then, but Mikhail says they have to take care of it now.

Locke says they can't because Ben is taking him to see Jacob.

Ben says that will have to wait and Mikhail wants to know why Ben is explaining himself to Locke.

Locke attacks Mikhail and, despite Ben's pleas, no one comes to Mikhail's aid.

  • Episode 3x22, Through the Looking Glass
Ben tells Mikhail to go to The Looking Glass. Mikhail thought it was flooded, but Ben says that he lied.

Mikhail sees Desmond in the boat above The Looking Glass. He shoots at Desmond and Desmond dives in.

Mikhail later pops up in the moon pool of The Looking Glass wearing scuba gear. He says that he thought Bonnie and Greta were on assignment in Canada. They tell him that Ben didn't want anyone to know that they were down there.

Mikhail goes into the communications room and talks to Ben. He wants to know why Ben lied to him and Ben says that everything he's done, he's done for the island. Ben tells Mikhail to trust him and to kill Charlie and take care of Greta and Bonnie too.

Mikhail shoots Greta, and Bonnie runs. He shoots Bonnie in the back, but doesn't kill her. Before he can shoot her again, Desmond shoots him with a spear.

Later, Desmond notices that Mikhail is not where he fell. Charlie sees him outside the porthole with a grenade. He takes the pin out and the window explodes, flooding the room Charlie is in.
