Tommy picks out a girl for Charlie to scam, Lucy. Charlie makes friends with her and they become a couple. He looks around her house for something to steal. He becomes close with both her and her father and decides to try and change his life. The father gives him a job, but without a heroin fix, Charlie is very ill and throws up during his first day on the job. He steals from Lucy, and then apologizes, but she won't have anything to do with him and tells him that he'll never be able to take care of anybody.
