Jin, ashamed of his fisherman father, tells Mr. Paik that his father is dead. Later, Jin visits his father and apologizes. His father instantly forgives him, and suggests that he take Sun and get away from Mr. Paik. - Episode 3x18, D.O.C.
Sun seeks out Mr. Kwon and they talk. She wants to know why Jin would say he was dead, and Mr. Kwon says it was to avoid the shame of where Jin came from. Sun asks if that's why he never told Jin that his mother was a prostitute. Mr. Kwon doesn't even know if he is Jin's biological father or not.He asks Sun not to tell Jin that she met him, that it will only bring more shame to Jin. Sun agrees.
