In exchange for the whereabouts of Nadia, Sayid agrees to reunite with his friend and old roommate, Essam, in order to find some C4 explosives. He talks his friend into blowing himself up, then once they have the explosives, Sayid tells Essam to leave before he calls the FBI. Essam is hurt that Sayid set him up and turns a gun on Sayid, only to turn the gun on himself and pull the trigger. Sayid stays in Sydney an extra day to claim Essam's body and make sure he has a proper burial.
