  Emily finds Locke, but seems reluctant to talk to him. He catches her and asks what she wants. She says she is his biological mother. This prompts Locke to hire an investigator. The investigator finds that Emily was in the Santa Rosa Mental Institution, but seems okay as long as she stays on her meds. He gets information on his father and finds him. Later, Locke learns that it was all a set up. Emily needed money and Locke's father, Anthony, needed a kidney, which Locke had given before he realized it was a set up.
• Episode 4x11, Cabin Fever
  In flashbacks, we see that Emily was hit by a car when she was almost 6 months pregnant and Locke was born prematurely. After fighting off infections and pneumonia, Locke was strong enough for Emily to hold him, but she said she couldn't and ran out of the room.
