In flashbacks, Hurley remembers his father leaving when Hurley was a kid. After Hurley wins the lottery, his father returns and tries to tell him that Hurley is not cursed. Carmen is happy to have Hurley's father back and wants him to stay, but Hurley wants him to leave.Hurley's father takes Hurley to see a psychic, but Hurley figures out that his father had asked the woman to make Hurley believe she could get rid of his numbers curse.

David and Carmen are there to greet Hurley when he arrives in Honolulu. Later, they throw him a surprise birthday party and David gives him a present. Hurley says he doesn't want anything bought with the money, and David says that he got it before Hurley gave them the money.He opens the garage to reveal the Camaro that the two had been working on when Hurley was a kid. David says that he worked on it as a memorial to Hurley and when he was working on it he'd felt like Hurley was there.
He gives Hurley the keys and Hurley gets inside. He sees that on the odometer are the numbers and he runs away saying he doesn't want anything to do with the car.

David makes a sandwich and sits down to watch Expose. There is a knock at the door, and he goes to open it, but when he hears it again, he realizes it's the sliding glass door. He opens it to find Hurley with Sayid slung over his shoulders. He asks what is going on and Hurley says there is someone trying to kill them.The police come and Hurley asks him to say he's not there. David sneaks Sayid out and takes him to Jack and then tells Jack to stay away from Hurley.
