Hurley sees Dave on the island and chases him. He remembers Dave from the mental institution. Dave always encouraged Hurley to eat and not to listen to Dr. Brooks. Dr. Brooks took a picture of Hurley with Dave, then later showed Hurley that he was the only one in the picture to prove that Dave was not real. When Dave tried to get Hurley to escape the mental institution, Hurley closed the window on Dave.On the island, Dave keeps running away from Hurley, but finally talks to him and tells him that Hurley made up the plane crash, the island, and all the people on the island and that he is actually still in Santa Rosa Mental Institution. Hurley follows him to a cliff, where Dave tells Hurley that if he wants to wake up, he has to jump. Dave jumps off the cliff. Libby keeps Hurley from following Dave off the cliff and convinces him that she is real.
