Ben wants to talk to Richard and when they are alone (except for Locke and Alex in the closet), Ben tells Richard to get the man from Tallahassee.After Locke blows up the sub and is handcuffed to a pipe, Richard wheels Ben in. Ben tells him to uncuff Locke and Richard does. They go down the hall where they see Anthony Cooper tied and gagged.

Richard meets Juliet at an airport and prepares her for her trip. He gives her a tranquilizer and she doesn't want to take it, but he says that she knows deep down that where they are taking her is special and that they need her there.From the island, Ben shows Juliet footage that Richard is shooting of Juliet's sister playing with her son.

Richard talks to Locke, telling him that Ben knew he wouldn't kill his own father and that he asked Locke to do it in front of everyone to embarrass him. Richard doesn't help Mikhail when Locke attacks him, despite Ben wanting Richard's help.In flashbacks, Ben remembers leaving the barracks and meeting Richard. Richard was a hostile that told Ben he could come with them if he was patient.
Later, Ben gasses his father and comes back to the barracks where Dharma workers are dead. After Richard removes his gas mask, Ben removes his. Richard asks if they should go get the body of Ben's father and Ben says no.

When Ben returns to camp, Richard wants to know what happened and if Locke saw Jacob. Ben tells him that Locke had an accident.Ben says that they will go to the Losties' camp now and Richard says that moving up the schedule is not a good idea, because Juliet might not be ready with the tents marked yet. Ben says they will take all the women and sort them out later.

Richard doesn't think it is a good idea for Ben to go tromping off by himself when people have questions about Locke, Jacob, and the people that went to the beach. Richard visited Locke shortly after Locke was born, then again when Locke was five. He claimed to have a school for special kids. He showed Locke several items and asked which belonged to him and was very disappointed when Locke chose the knife.When Locke was a teenager, Richard called the school in the hopes of getting Locke to attend what he claimed was a summer camp.

With Kate's and Sayid's help, Richard and his men overtake Keamy's men and free Ben. Richard shoots Keamy in the back. In return for their help Kate and Sayid are free to leave the island on the helicopter.Later, outside the Orchid, Richard welcomes Locke "home".

In 1954, Richard is on the island and looks the same as he does now. Locke finds him at a military camp that he'd taken over and says that Jacob sent him. Locke gives Richard the compass. He asks Richard how to get off the island, but the flash comes before Richard tells him. - Episode 5x8, LaFleur
Richard goes to the Barracks and talks to Horace about their uneasy truce. Richard says that two of his men were killed and Horace says he doesn't know what Richard is talking about. Later, Sawyer goes to talk to Richard and says that the Dharma Initiative didn't kill Richard's men, it was Sawyer and it was because when he'd asked the men to put their guns down that they had pointed at a woman, they pointed their guns to Sawyer, so he had to shoot them.In order to get Richard to believe that he is not with the Dharma Initiative, Sawyer asks if they buried the bomb named Jughead and reminds Richard that a bald man came to his camp 20 years ago talking mumbo jumbo about being their leader and then disappeared.
Richard agrees to continue the truce as long as he can have the body of the Dharma Initiative man that died when Richard's two men died.

Kate and Sawyer take Ben into the jungle, hoping that the Others can help him, since he is dying from his bullet wound. Richard says that if he takes Ben, Ben will never be the same, he'll lose his innocence and he won't remember. Kate says she still wants him to take Ben. After bringing young Ben into their camp, Richard gets yelled at by Charles. Richard stands up to him and says that Jacob wants Ben there and the island chooses who the island chooses.A few years later, Richard watches as Ben stands up to Charles and doesn't kill Rousseau.
Dr. Alpert offers Juliet a job at Mittelos Bioscience. He shows her a slide of a woman's badly damaged womb. Juliet asks what happened to her and Dr. Albert says Juliet could have all the resources she needs to find out. Juliet tells him that her ex-husband would never let her. The only way she could work for them is if her ex got hit by a bus. She apologizes for being unprofessional and leaves.
After her ex is hit by a bus, Dr. Alpert shows up again. This time he is with Ethan Rom and he offers her the job again. She wants to take her sister, but he tells her she can't.
