Episode 2x1, Man of Science, Man of Faith
Desmond gets up, types numbers into a computer and then goes about the morning, washing dishes, checking laundry, and working out on an old-style exercise bike. He injects himself with some kind of medication that has the numbers on it. He hears an explosion.He grabs weapons from a vault, turns the lights down, and looks through a scope. He adjusts mirrors that go through long pipe-like hallways. We see a mirror pointing upwards and zoom in to see the reflection. It's Jack and Locke holding torches, staring down into the blackness of the blown open hatch. Desmond grabs some guns.
Later, Locke enters and Desmond takes Locke hostage.
Episode 2x2, Adrift
Desmond has Locke in the hatch. Desmond asks how many of them there are, then asks how many are sick. Locke doesn't seem to understand and Desmond snaps, "As in ill! As in dead!""Is that why is says 'Quarantine' on the inside of the hatch?" Locke asks.
Loud beeping starts. Desmond gets Locke up and they go into the computer room. He asks Locke if he knows how to use the computer and Locke says, "I haven't seen one of these in 20 years."
Up above there is a timer counting down. Desmond tells Locke to type in the numbers 4, 8, 15 and then asks if Locke heard something. Locke says no and Desmond continues with the numbers 16, 23, 42. He tells him to press execute and Locke hesitates. "What's going to happen?"
Desmond tells him to just do it and when he does, the timer resets to 108. Jack comes in and Desmond trains a gun on him.
Episode 2x3, Orientation
Kate sneaks behind Desmond and hits him with a gun. As he falls, his gun fires and hits the computer. He starts freaking out, saying, "Now you've done it." He runs into the other room. Desmond explains that three years ago he was on a solo race around the world and his boat crashed into the reef. Kelvin ran out of the jungle.Locke asks about Kelvin and Desmond says that Kelvin brought him there and taught him how to type in the code. Kelvin said he was saving the world.
"So I started pushing the button, too," Desmond says. "And we saved the world together for awhile, and that was lovely. Then Kelvin died and now here I am all alone. The end."
Desmond tries to fix the computer. To Locke, Jack says, "Don't tell me you believe this. This is crazy. You think that makes sense? Pushing a button? You're going to take his word for it?"
"His word is all we have," Locke says.
Desmond says, "You don't have to take my word for it. Watch the film." He tells them to look on the top shelf of the bookcase and that the projector is in the pantry. Locke and Jack find the film in a metal film canister with the Dharma logo on it. On the side is a label that says "Orientation". Desmond continues to fix the computer, Jack asks all kinds of questions. Desmond says that he didn't know about the plane crash because he has to press the button every 108 minutes, so he doesn't get out much.
He also says that Kelvin died waiting for his replacements. And that he hopes this is all an experiment but that every time he walks past that concrete wall out there his fillings hurt.
Desmond flips a switch on the computer and the power goes out. "It's over," Desmond says. He goes into the pantry and fills a pack with food and his medication and injector. He goes out and Locke runs after him, asking where he's going. "As far as I can run, brother."
Episode 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone Desmond's sailboat returns him to the island. He is drunk. He tells Jack that the island is all they have.
Locke talks Desmond into going back to the hatch with him and together they trick Eko into going out of the computer room, then Desmond forces a lockdown, so that Eko is locked out and can't punch in the numbers.
Desmond wants to know all about The Pearl station and Locke gives him the readout. Desmond figures out that the day he didn't get the numbers in on time was the day that the plane crashed.
Desmond thinks they need to punch in the numbers, but Locke breaks the computer. When the timer gets to zero, everything starts shaking and Desmond goes down below with a key and puts it in the security system. When he turns it, everything goes white.
