Michael and Sawyer argue who's fault it is that Walt was taken. They are on separate pieces of raft wreckage, but because of the current, they stick together. Michael comes to believe that it's his fault because he never should have brought Walt on the raft. Michael and Sawyer wash up on shore of the island and find Jin, who is yelling about the "Others
Michael, Sawyer, and Jin are let out of the pit, and the Tailies
take them to the Tailies' bunker.
Michael sneaks away from the Tailies to go find Walt. Mr. Eko and Jin convince Michael to go back to the group.
Michael won't leave Sawyer, even though he is really sick and he is slowing them down when they are in the dangerous jungle.
Ana-Lucia gives Michael instructions to go back to his camp and get supplies for her, but instead he goes to Jack and tells him the situation.
As Michael messes with the computer a message pops up that says, "Hello?" He types back and says that he is Michael. The message that comes back to him is, "Dad?"
Michael takes a gun and locks Jack and Locke in the gun safe so that he can go after Walt.
Kate and Jack go into the jungle to tell the Others that they have non-Henry and want to trade him for Walt. As they wait, someone falls at their feet. They turn him over and are shocked to see Michael.
Michael is unconscious when they bring him into the hatch. When he wakes, he tells them of the Others. They are dirty people who live in tents, but they have a hatch that they guard well. As soon as he gets his strength he wants to lead them to the Others so that they can overtake the Others.
Michael later finds Ana-Lucia alone in the hatch and she tells him about non-Henry. She is upset that she couldn't shoot him. Michael says that he'll do it and gets the gun and the armory combination. He apologizes to Ana-Lucia, then shoots her. Libby comes in and he panics and shoots her as well. He goes into the armory, looks at non-Henry, then shoots himself in the arm.
Michael is surprised that Libby is alive, and he's very nervous. When she dies he looks triumphant and powerful.
Michael doesn't want anyone to know that they are going to get Walt. He only wants Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, and Kate to go with him and is very adamant about that. He finally convinces Jack.
Eko talks to Michael about hell as they clean up Libby's blood.
Michael remembers all that happened during the time he was gone. He had gone to the Others' camp and met Miss Klugh. She asked all kinds of questions about Walt and then finally let him see Walt. Walt said that they weren't who they pretended to be and was then taken away. Miss Klugh told Michael that if he brings back Sawyer, Jack, Kate, and Hurley and only them, they would let Michael and Walt go free.
Michael is nervous and anxious. He leads Jack, Hurley, Kate, and Sawyer through the jungle. He starts to suspect that Jack suspects him.
Jack makes Michael tell the truth and he admits to letting non-Henry go and to killing Ana-Lucia and Libby. He says he had to do it.
Jack sees Sayid's signal fire and realizes that Michael is not leading them to the Others' camp and starts yelling at him. Michael says he had to do it. The four are hit with darts and taken to a pier. Michael is allowed to leave on a boat with Walt.
