Michael goes with Kate and Locke on the boar hunt and is gored by a boar. Michael reveals to Kate that he's only had Walt for the last two weeks since Walt's mother passed away.Episode 1x6, House of the Rising Sun
Michael gets beat by Jin for no apparent reason. After Sun explains to Michael what happened with the watch, he cuts Jin loose but tells him to stay away from Michael and his son.Episode 1x7, The Moth
Michael takes charge at the cave-in with his eight years experience in construction.Episode 1x14, Special
Michael is upset when he finds Walt and Locke together on two separate occasions. He doesn't want Walt to grow up on the island and so he begins to build a raft to leave.Michael loses Walt again and goes straight to Locke, who hasn't seen him. The two go off into the jungle where they find Walt being attacked by a polar bear. Together they save Walt.

Jin and Sun argue and Michael steps in. Sun slaps him. Sun later apologizes to Michael and tells him she slapped him to protect him from Jin. When his raft is burned, Michael believes Jin did it, but later accepts the fact that they are not alone on the island and it could have been someone else.Episode 1x22, Born to Run
Michael is poisoned and believes that Sawyer is at fault.Walt admits to burning the raft and Michael says they can stay on the island, but Walt doesn't want to.

Michael makes final preparations on the raft, and then he sails away with Sawyer, Jin, and Walt.Episode 1x24, Exodus Part 2
Michael is bonding with Walt on the raft. He is happy that Sawyer saved the rudder, but is upset when he finds Sawyer's gun.The radar picks up something, but Michael isn't sure that there is a boat out there and he doesn't want to use their only flare, but gives in when Walt begs him to use it.
The boat comes and the bearded man steals Walt. Michael tries to save Walt, but he's pushed in the water and the bearded man drives away after blowing up Michael's raft.
