Flashbacks in Italics

Sayid is by himself on an unfamiliar stretch of beach. He looks at the photograph that Claire had found a few days earlier, of the Iraqi woman. He turns the photograph over and reads the writing on the back. He looks down the beach and sees a cable, which he picks up. One end of the cable goes into the ocean, the other, into the jungle.

Jack Tends to Sawyer

At the regular beach, Jack changes the bandage on Sawyer's arm. "How'd I score the house call, Dr. Quinn?" Sawyer asks.

Jack says he's there because no one else wants anything to do with Sawyer. Sawyer is silent for a moment, then says, "She does," referring to Kate. Jack gives him a fake laugh and tells Sawyer to change his own bandage.

Outside Sawyer's tent, Jack finds Kate starring off into the distance. She tells Jack that she's worried about Sayid. He says, "Sayid is a trained soldier, Kate. He can take care of himself."

Sayid Can Take Care of Himself

Sayid follows the wire through the jungle, stopping when he sees a trip wire in his path. He carefully steps over it, and suddenly is jerked up by a rope tied around his ankle. Hanging upside down, Sayid hits the tree and a branch goes through his leg. He pulls the branch out.

Night falls and Sayid is still in the net, praying. He hears footsteps and cautiously calls out, "Hello?" A knife flashes in the moonlight and Sayid tumbles to the ground.

Hypochondriacs

Jack tends to various aliments of the survivors, including Sullivan's hives. He hears people arguing and Hurley confirms that it's just people arguing over nothing and that everyone is stressed out. Jack points out that at least they are surviving. "It could be worse," he says.
"How?" Hurley asks.

Where is Alex?

Sayid wakes and realizes he's tied to some kind of metal bed. A woman is asking, "Where is Alex?" Sayid doesn't know what she is talking about and she flips a switch, which causes the lights to dim and an electric shock to go through Sayid. She asks about Alex again and again shocks Sayid.

Sayid's Flashback - Sayid's Promotion

Sayid is torturing a man, while Sayid's superior, Omar, looks on. Outside the interrogation room, Sayid and Omar exchange friendly chatter. Omar tells Sayid that he's doing a great job and will soon be transferred to intelligence. Sayid seems happy about the move. As he's talking to Omar, Sayid's attention is caught by a woman being led past by two soldiers.

Whoa, Dude!

Locke and Ethan return from a hunting trip with some suitcases they'd found. Locke gives them to Hurley to look through. Walt wakes up and asks Locke if he can go with him, but before Locke can answer Michael wakes up and tells him no.
Hurley opens a suitcase and says, "Whoa, Dude!"

The French Woman

Sayid is shocked again and he begs the woman to stop. He tells her that he survived a plane crash and heard a distress call that a French Woman left that has been playing for 16 years. She repeats the saying and Sayid realizes that she is the French woman.

"Sixteen years," she says, stepping into the light. "Has it really been that long?" She has stringy hair and wild eyes. "And you just happened to hear my distress call? I know who you really are." She knocks him out.

Sayid wakes and sees his captor rummaging around in his pack. He takes the opportunity to look around and sees a jacket with a name on the back: Rousseau. He says the name aloud, which arouses her suspicion more.

Sayid asks if this is where the distress call is transmitted from. She says that it's transmitted from somewhere else, "but they control it now." She pulls the photo from Sayid's pack and asks who the woman is. Sayid says her name is Nadia.
