Flashbacks in Italics
Kate walks along the beach carrying bananas. She comes upon Sawyer's book, Watership Down, on top of his clothes. She picks up the book and hears Sawyer say, "Hell of a book." He comes out of the water, wearing nothing, and walks toward her. Kate comments on how cold the water must be and Sawyer asks her to warm him up.
"You sure know how to make a girl feel special," she replies sarcastically.
Sawyer's Flashback - Bag Full of Money
"You're incredible, Sawyer," says a woman in a hotel bed with Sawyer. She notices the time and Sawyer hops out of bed, tugs on his pants, and grabs a briefcase. It spills open, revealing bundles of cash."You weren't exactly supposed to see that," Sawyer says.
Boone Caught in Sawyer's Stuff
Sawyer finds Boone digging in Sawyer's hidden stash. "What are you doing in my stuff, son?" Sawyer asks a scared looking Boone.Beaten Boone
Jack tends to Sayid's head as Sayid explains that whoever hit him also destroyed the transceiver. Sayid vows to find the person responsible. Suddenly Shannon brings in Boone, who has been beaten up.Boone says that he went to Sawyer because he caught him reading Watership Down, a book that Boone had in his bag. Also in the bag were Shannon's refills for her asthma meds. Boone tells Jack that Sawyer refused to give up the refills and attacked him.
Claire Won't Move
Charlie delivers water to Claire on the beach. He tries to talk her into moving into the caves, especially since Jack is there to take care of her and her unborn child. Claire says she wants to stay on the beach "for when we get rescued."
Possession
Sawyer is reading a letter and Jack begins going through his suitcases. Jack says he wants Shannon's inhalers.
"Look," Sawyer says, "I don't know what kind of commie share-fest you're running over in cave town, but down here possession's 9/10ths, and a man's got a right to protect his property."Jacks tells him to get up. "Why? You want to see who's taller?" Sawyer says. Kate comes over and asks what's going on. Jack storms off.
Sawyer's Flashback - Oil Mining Investment
Sawyer explains that the cash is his life savings. It's half of what he needs for an oil mining investment. He's meeting with an investor to try and get the other half. The woman says that instead of going to the investor, she could give him the money. "Yeah, and where are you going to get $160,000?""My husband."
Sawyer, The Human Being
Jack paces the beach, saying he wants to kill Sawyer. Kate offers to talk to Sawyer, saying they have a connection. She finds Sawyer reading his letter and asks what he wants in exchange for Shannon's inhaler refills. He says he wants a kiss."You try too hard, Sawyer," Kate says. "I ask you to help a woman who can't breathe, and you want me to kiss you? Nobody's that disgusting."
Kate says, "You can play games all you want, but I know there's a human being in there somewhere."
"You want to know what kind of human being I am?" Sawyer shoves the letter into her hands, and tells her to read it aloud. It's to Sawyer from a boy whose parents were conned by Sawyer. As a result of the con, his father killed his mother and then himself. "Now how about that kiss?" he asks.
Locke Gives Sayid a Knife
Sayid approaches Locke and asks where he was during Sayid's attack. Locke says he was hunting and suggests that Sawyer had something to do with the attack. He gives Sayid one of his knives, "just in case there is a next time."
