"Exodus Part 2" Recap

Part 5

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Hurley's Flashback - Late

Hurley wakes in a hotel room and looks at the alarm clock. It's blank. He turns on the lamp, but nothing happens. He gets up and opens the curtains to see that it's daylight. The electrical outlet has burned.

Hurley frantically packs and picks up the phone, saying, "I need my car. Twenty minutes? Look, I can't miss my flight. My mom's birthday is tomorrow."

Hurley runs to the elevator, but it's full. He runs for the stairs and we see Charlie in the elevator. Charlie yells, "Some of us have a bloody flight to make."

Hurley runs through the hotel lobby and gets to his car, but on the way his car breaks down, so he jumps out and runs. Huffing and puffing and very sweaty, he arrives at the check-in desk. The ticket agent starts checking him in.

Hurley says, "Any way we can hurry that up? My mom's birthday is tomorrow. Or, today, I don't know. I don't really get the whole time change thing, but I've got to make that flight."

She says he's confirmed but the airline has a policy that a man his size has to purchase two tickets. Hurley complains that he didn't have to do that on the flight out here, but buys the second ticket.

"Uh-oh," the ticket agent says. "It appears that your flight is already boarding in the Oceanic international terminal. Well, this is the domestic terminal. I don't think you're meant to make this flight, dear."

Hurley again runs through the airport. He cuts to the front of the security line, but the guard makes him go to the end of the line.

We see Arzt in the same line.

Once through security, Hurley sees a guy on a motorized scooter and gives him $1600 for it.

Hurley makes it to gate number 23, but the gate agent says that the jet way is closed. Hurley begs and she calls someone, then says, "This is your lucky day," and lets Hurley through.

Faith

It's dark and they carry torches. Hurley whispers the numbers over and over and Kate asks what he's saying. He says nothing and she says, "I thought I heard 23."

He asks if that number means something to her and she says that the guy who turned her in did it for a $23,000 reward. She asks if it means anything to him and Hurley says no.

Up ahead, Jack gets too close to Locke and Locke asks him to back off. Jack says, "If we blow up, we blow up." Then he wants to know why Locke wanted him to let go.

"It wasn't going to hurt me," Locke says.

"No, John, it was going to kill you."

Jack wants to know what was going on inside Locke's head. Locke says he believes he was being tested. He says, "That's why you and I don't see eye-to-eye sometimes, Jack, because you're a man of science."

"Yeah," Jack says, "and what does that make you?"

Locke says, "Me, well, I'm a man of faith. Do you really think all this is an accident - that we, a group of strangers survived, many of us with just superficial injuries? Do you think we crashed on this place by coincidence - especially, this place? We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason, all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason."

"Brought here?" Jack says. "And who brought us here, John?"

"The island. The island brought us here. This is no ordinary place, you've seen that, I know you have. But the island chose you, too, Jack. It's destiny."

Jack asks about Boone and if dying was Boone's destiny, and Locke says yes. Everything that has happened has led them there so that they could open the hatch.
