Kate's Flashback - Five Guns
Kate and the Marshal are in the Australian airport in an office. An airport cop asks if the Marshal will be armed. "Yes," he says, "with an ankle holster."The cop says he has to stow his case in the luggage compartment in the front. The Marshal agrees and the cop asks why he needs five guns. He asks if Kate wants to tell him, but she says nothing. She sits next to him, handcuffed to a chair.
The cop asks about the toy plane that is also in the case, next to the guns. The Marshal explains how the plane belonged to her childhood sweetheart who she got killed a couple of years ago when she was on the run. Kate began calling the Marshal, taunting him, and he tells her he has the toy plane in a safe deposit box. Somehow she figures out the bank and the safe deposit number.
The Marshal taunts her about the name of her friend and Kate jumps up and pins the Marshal against the wall. The Marshal elbows her in the face and she falls to the ground. He turns to the cop, "That is why I need five guns."
Messages in a Bottle
Kate finds Jack and says that she wants to go along to get the dynamite. He points out that then she won't be there for the raft launching, but she says she's not good at goodbyes. He says she can go.We see the black smoke in the distance and Charlie is near the raft, collecting messages to put in a bottle. Hurley gives him a message and tells him not to read it.
The group that is going into the jungle says goodbye to the group that is going on the raft. Kate asks about Sawyer, but Charlie says he hasn't seen him. Jack calls for Kate because they are leaving.
Arntz
Rousseau takes her outer shirt off and ties it around her waist. Locke notices scratches on her arm and asks how she got them. Rousseau says, "A bush.""Mean bush," Locke says.
Hurley and Arzt discuss Arzt's name because Hurley keeps calling him "Arntz." Hurley wants to call him by his first name, Leslie, but Arzt says that Arnzt is fine.
They see a piece of black fabric hanging from a tree branch. "Le Territoire Fonce," Danielle says.
"The Dark Territory," Jack says.
She says that the Black Rock is not far. "This is where it all began, where my team got infected." One of her team members, Montand, had lost his arm there.
Arzt decides to go back and Jack says he thought Arzt was going to help. But Arzt points out that he was going to help before "Monton lost his frickin' arm".
"Well, what about the dynamite?" Jack wants to know.
"Be very careful with it," Arzt says.
The Security System
Michael and Jin continue working on the raft. Sawyer brings in his bamboo pole. "Now," Sawyer says, "are we going to get off this rock or stand around talking about it?" Out in the jungle, in the rain, the Black Rock group hears strange sounds. Arzt comes barreling out of the jungle, with the sound of the unseen force right behind him. "Run!" he yells.He runs past them and Jack, Kate, and Rousseau follow. Locke stops Hurley from running, but Hurley gets more and more nervous as the unseen force gets louder, then sounds as if it's going away. Locke and Hurley find the others and Rousseau says it's a security system, in place to protect something.
"Protect what?" Kate asks.
"The island," Rousseau answers.
Hurley asks where "Arntz" is and Arzt steps out of hiding. "Dude," Hurley says, "I thought you were dead."
Walt Gives Shannon Vincent
Shannon folds Boone's clothes. Walt says, "I think you should take Vincent." Shannon wonders why, and Walt explains that when his mother died and everyone pretended like things were okay, he talked to Vincent. He's a good listener and Shannon could talk to him about Boone.Shannon's Flashback - Shannon's Way
Shannon is in the airport, her legs spanning across three seats. She's doing a crossword puzzle. A man she hasn't yet met, Sayid, puts his bag next to her and asks if she will watch it for him. He'll be right back. She says, "Yeah, whatever," without hardly looking at him.Boone comes and says that he couldn't get them into first class and that she shouldn't have yelled at the gate agent. Shannon gets mad at him and they argue. They leave the seats and go up the escalator. They continue to argue and Shannon says she can get Boone thrown off this flight.
Boone doesn't believe her and she flags down an airport cop and says, "Some Arab guy just left his bags in the chairs downstairs and then just walked away."
