Jack's Flashback - Ana-Lucia

Jack sits in the airport bar. A woman next to him asks why he was yelling at the at the girl at the check-in counter. Jack asks if he knows her and she says, "So, your dad died, huh?"

"I thought you didn't hear what I was yelling about," he says and she says she was being polite. She asks why no wedding ring. And he says he's not married anymore.

He asks her name and she says, "Ana-Lucia." She explains that she's drinking at noon because she hates flying and they stuck her way in the back where the wheels come down right under your feet. She asks where he's sitting.

"Twenty-three B."

She says, "42F, want to trade?"

Her phone rings and Jack says his name is Jack and she says they'll have their next drink on the plane and walks off to take the call.

Flawed Plan

Jack addresses everyone, "Look, I know you're all scared. And I know everybody has a lot of questions. All I can tell you right now is that we do have a plan. We've got to go into the jungle to get some supplies. We'll be back in a few hours. In the meantime, do everything you can to help Michael get that raft in the water. And after that, go to the caves. We'll be back as soon as we can. I promise."

Arzt runs up to Jack and talks privately to him. "Hey, nice speech. Plan's a little flawed, but hey, nobody's perfect."

"What plan?" Jack asks.

"Yeah," Arzt says, "your plan. You're going to go into the jungle and get some dynamite and blow open a hatch and then you're going to hide everyone inside." Jack looks at him and Arzt says, "You want to keep a secret, don't tell the fat guy."

Jack asks what Arzt wants and he says, "God knows how long that dynamite has been out there. And from what I can tell, Madam Nutso doesn't seem too concerned with how to handle it. So, unless you want to blow up, I'm coming with you."

Jack is in a hurry and agrees to let Arzt come along. Michael and Jin are communicating really well, despite the language barrier. Jin says something in Korean and Michael answers him in English. Sawyer wants to help, but Michael says they can work faster without him.

Sawyer's Flashback - Sawyer Deported

Sawyer is in the Australian police station where we saw both him and Boone before. Now he is in trouble for head-butting the Honorable Warren Truss, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry.

Sawyer says the man head-butted him, but they say they have witnesses. They know who he is. He is James Ford and has a rap sheet which includes assault, wire fraud, identity theft, bank fraud, telemarketing, and more.

The cop slaps an Oceanic ticket down on the desk and says that Sawyer is being deported.

Sawyer's Goodbye to Jack

Sawyer chops down bamboo poles. Jack approaches and Sawyer asks what he wants. He is surprised when Jack hands him a gun and ammo. "You're the only one on the raft who knows how to use one," Jack tells him.

Jack is about to head out into the jungle and Sawyer is about to head out on the raft. They realize this is goodbye and Sawyer looks conflicted.

Before Jack walks away, Sawyer says, "About a week before we all got on the plane I got to talking to this man in a bar in Sydney. He was American, too. A doctor. I've been on some benders in my time, but this guy - he was going for an all time record. It turns out this guy has a son - his son's a doctor, too."

Jack listens more intently and Sawyer continues, "They had some kind of big time falling out. The guy knew it was his fault even though his son was back in the States thinking the same damn thing. See, kids are like dogs, you knock them around enough they'll think they did something to deserve it."

Jack looks as if he can hardly believe what he's hearing. "Anyway," Sawyer says, "there's a pay phone in this bar. And this guy, Christian, tells me he wishes he had the stones to pick up the phone, call his kid, tell him he's sorry, that he's a better doctor than he'll ever be. He's proud, and he loves him. I had to take off, but something tells me he never got around to making that call."

Jack's bottom lip quivers and he looks away from Sawyer.

Sawyer says, "Small world, huh?"

Jack composes himself and says, "Yeah."

"Good luck, Jack."
