"Born to Run" Recap

Part 2

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Jin is Going

Jin works on the raft and Sun approaches to ask if he's going. He doesn't answer and she begs him to talk to her. "Yes," he says, "I'm going."

Jack's First Glimpse of the Hatch

Jack follows Sayid through the jungle and asks where he's taking him. Sayid says he doesn't want to tell him, he wants him to see for himself. Jack is just about to turn around and head back when Locke shows up.

"I told him not to tell you," Locke says, "because I want you to keep an open mind."

Locke shows Jack the hatch and Jack says, "What is this thing?"

Locke says, "Exactly. I guess it's time we talked about this."

Fish on the Raft

Sawyer asks Michael why Jin is packing salted fish onto the raft. "It's the ocean, can't we just catch fish?" Michael wonders if Sawyer is the best person to take along and Sawyer asks who else wants to go.

Sawyer finds Kate burning a license. She hides it when he walks up. He says that he knows who she is and that her only chance of getting away is on the raft. "Don't worry, puddin'" he says, "your secret is safe with me. But just so you know, no way in hell you're getting my spot on that raft."

He starts to walk away and Kate says, "Hey, Sawyer. I want your spot, I'll get your spot."

Michael's Pain

Michael asks Walt to hand him some water. He talks to Walt at the raft. Walt wants to know why Sawyer wants to get off the island so badly. Michael says it's because he knows the raft is going to work and this island will be hard to find again to rescue everyone else.

Suddenly Michael doubles over, wincing in pain. He strains to tell Walt to get Jack. Walt runs through the jungle and finds Kate and Sun. Kate sends Sun with Walt back to Michael, while she looks for Jack.

Jack, Locke, Lies

Jack asks how long Locke has known about the hatch. "Three weeks, give or take."

"You've been out here three weeks digging this thing up and you never told me about it?" Jack says.

"All due respect, Jack," Locke says, "but since when do I report to you?"

Jack says, "All due respect, John, but you lied."
Locke says, "How long did you have that case full of guns before you decided the rest of us needed to know? You used your best discretion. I used mine."

"So how do we open it?" Jack asks.

Sayid gets nervous and says, "We should bury it. I brought you here to talk him out of this insanity. Anything could be inside. You notice anything about this hatch?" Sayid asks. "There's no handle. Maybe it was never meant to be opened from the outside."

Michael's Food and Drink

Jack, Locke, and Sayid walk back toward camp and hear Kate yelling for Jack. They find her and she says that something is wrong with Michael and they all take off running.

Jack asks Michael what he's eaten, and he says fish and fruit and he's been drinking plenty of water. He's eating and drinking the same thing as everyone else. Jack leaves and Kate takes over Michael's care.

Kate's Flashback - The Time Capsule

Kate is in a kitchen. Tom is on the phone and she looks at photos on the refrigerator. She picks one up of Tom with a toddler. When Tom gets off the phone he says the boy's name is Connor. He's 22 months old.

She says the boy is beautiful and Tom says it's because of Rachel. Kate asks where Rachel is and he says in Cedar Rapids visiting her folks. They'll be back on Sunday.

"I got Diane in for an MRI," he says. "The appointment's not until 5 a.m., so we've got about 3 hours to kill.

Kate is appreciative. She says, "Do you think it's still there?"

"It's the middle of the night, Katie," he says. She says they may not get another chance.

The two drive out under a big tree. They pull shovels from the car, count off six paces, then start digging.
