Jack, Kate, and Charlie continue to walk through the jungle, returning from their hike to find the cockpit.
Charlie's Flashback
Charlie sits on the plane, tapping his ring against the arm rest. He looks very agitated. The flight attendant talks to him and notices his agitation. He looks back to see her talking with other flight attendants, who then start his way. He gets up and runs to the bathroom, passing Jack and stepping over Boone and Shannon.In the bathroom, he takes out a bag of heroin and tastes it. A flight attendant bangs on the door and asks if he's alright and tells him to open the door. Charlie drops the baggie in the toilet, but just as he is about to flush, they hit turbulence and he hits the ceiling. He then falls out of the bathroom and a large crate almost hits him. He makes his way to a seat and buckles himself in as the plane goes down.
Gods Gift to Humanity
Boone finds Shannon sunbathing on the beach in a bikini. "I see you found your bag," he says. The two argue and when he walks away, Claire asks if Boone is Shannon's boyfriend. "No," she says, "brother."Shannon describes Boone to Claire as "Gods friggin' gift to humanity."
Button It!
Michael finds Jin and Sun on the shore and asks if they have seen his son. The two only speak Korean, so Michael can't understand them. Jin yells something at Sun and she looks down and buttons the top button of her sweater.Handcuffs on the Island
Michael finds his son, Walt, and yells at him for going into the jungle. Walt shows him the handcuffs he had just picked up off of the ground.They return to the beach and see a fight between two guys. One has accused the other of being a terrorist. Michael shows them the handcuffs. Jack asks if anyone knows how to use the transceiver that they got from the pilot earlier.
The man who was accused of being a terrorist says he can fix the transceiver. While he fixes it, a heavy set man comes over and introduces himself as Hurley. "Sayid," the other man says.
Hurley asks how Sayid knows how to fix stuff and Sayid says that he was in the Gulf war. Hurley wants to know if he was in the army and Sayid says, "Republican Guard."
Unbutton It!
Sun goes to give Kate a message and finds her bathing in the ocean in very little clothing. Once Kate walks away, Sun undoes her top button.Kate goes back to the main beach, and Sayid tells her that the transceiver is fixed, but they don't have very much battery time, and they need to head to higher ground. Kate says she will go with him.
Kate goes to Jack to tell him that she is going with Sayid to try and find a signal and send a mayday message. Jack is working on a guy with shrapnel in his chest.
Starving, But Not That Hungry
Jin takes food that he has caught in the tide pools around to the crash survivors.When Hurley sees the seafood that Jin brings to him, he laughs and says, "I am starving, but I'm nowhere near that hungry," and laughs again.
Who's Going on the Hike?
On the beach, Boone calls Shannon out on being lazy and selfish. In defiance, she tells Boone that she is going with the transceiver group to find higher ground. Boone doesn't want his sister to go, but knowing that she won't change her mind, he goes too, to watch over her. Charlie goes because Shannon is going. The man who accused the other man of being a terrorist is reading a letter and looks sad. He decides to go too.Backgammon
Walt sees a man setting up a backgammon board and asks him about it. The two talk and Walt tells him that his mother died."You're having a bad month," the man says.
