Locke's Flashback - Mouse Trap

Locke has a head of brown hair. He is a store employee, setting up a game of Mouse Trap. A boy walks over and asks what he's doing. Locke tells the boy that this was his favorite game. He used to play with his brother. He shows the boy how to play.

Locke notices a woman watching him and goes to talk to her. He asks if he can help her. She wants to know where the footballs are.

"Aisle eight for regulation, aisle 15 for Nerf."

She thanks him and goes down the aisle. The boy traps the mouse in the Mouse Trap game.

The Trebuchet

Locke and Boone have built a trebuchet to try to break open the hatch. It doesn't work, the hatch doesn't even crack.

Locke gets angry. "This was supposed to work!"

"John, your leg, man," Boone says.

Locke pulls a four inch piece of metal out of his leg. Boone asks if he's okay and Locke says he's fine.

Later, when he is alone, Locke unwraps the bandage on his leg and pricks himself with a safety pin. He doesn't feel it. He pricks his other leg without feeling it, then holds a piece of burning wood from the fire on his foot. He can't feel anything in his legs or feet.

The next morning, Locke and Boone work to build another trebuchet. Boone wonders how this will work since the other one didn't work and Locke says that the other wasn't strong enough and that anything will break with enough force.

Boone asks what they are going to do if this doesn't.

Locke says, "Then the island will tell us what to do."

Boone wonders what Locke is talking about. Locke struggles to get up and Boone asks again if he's okay. Locke says he's fine.

Locke's Flashback - Locke's Mom

Locke leaves work and goes to his car. He sees the same woman again, and chases after her. A car backing out of a space hits him, but he jumps up and keeps running. When he catches her, he asks who she is.

"I am your mother."

The two go to a diner and Locke says, "Look, miss, I don't know why you think I'm your son, or how you found me, but-"

She interrupts to ask if he was adopted. He says no, that he moved from foster home to foster home. She seems upset by this. He wants to know what she wants from him.

"I want to tell you that you're special, very special. You're part of a design. You do realize that, don't you? That our meeting, me finding you, this is a sign of things to come. Great things."

Locke asks about his father and if he's still alive. "Oh, John," she says, "don't you understand? You don't have a father. You were immaculately conceived.

Sawyer's Headaches

Sawyer holds a leaf in each hand and asks Sun which one. She points to one and he asks if she's sure because that's the one he's been using. Kate comes along and asks what's wrong, but Sawyer says nothing and leaves.

Sun tells Kate that Sawyer has been having headaches and the aspirin and leaves aren't helping him.

Kate goes to the caves and asks Jack what someone who has bad headaches every day should do. He wants to know who and she tells him Sawyer.

"Look, Kate," Jack says, "I'd like nothing more than to check the guy out and make sure he's okay, but we both know all I'm going to get for my trouble is a snappy one liner, and if I'm real lucky, a brand new nickname."
