Flashbacks in Italics
Hurley helps with the new raft. Jin motions for Hurley to do something.
"You want to make snowballs?" Hurley asks."He wants you to tie the bamboo tighter," Michael says.
Jack comes over to check on the progress of the raft. Michael tells Jack that he wants something to send out a distress call if any ships get close to the raft.
Jack thinks it's a good idea, but wonders what they would power it with. "Didn't Sayid say that crazy French chick has batteries?" Hurley says.
They go to Sayid, but he says he will not go back to the French woman. Jack offers to go, but Sayid is against it. Sayid was unconscious when Rousseau took him, and disoriented when he left.
Jack thinks maybe they can figure out where she is by her maps. Hurley looks at the map for a moment, then looks horrified. He is staring at some numbers written over and over again 4 8 15 16 23 42.
Hurley's Flashback - The Winning Lotto Numbers
Hurley is on the couch in his mother's house eating from a bucket of chicken and flipping through the TV channels. His mother yells from the kitchen, asking what he's watching. "Look, Mom, we've talked about this," he says. "You want me living here you've got to respect my privacy.""Look at you," she says. "It's Saturday night. A grown up man sitting at home watching TV. You should go out, try to find yourself a nice woman."
"Yeah, I'll get right on that," Hurley says as he relaxes back into the couch.
The Lotto girl on the TV says, "with Mega number 42. And that make's tonight's Mega Lotto jackpot 4 8 15 16 23." Hurley stands up as the Lotto girl says, "With the Mega number 42. Whoever has those numbers has won, or will share, in a near record jackpot."
This is the 16th week with no winner, which is why the jackpot is so huge. Hurley faints, breaking the coffee table.
Hurley Asks Sayid about Rousseau's Numbers
Sayid wakes to see Hurley standing over him. Hurley says he can't sleep and was wondering about the stuff the French lady wrote. He asks about the numbers. "Any idea what it means?"Sayid thought at one point that the numbers were coordinates, but he doesn't think that anymore and he doesn't know what they mean.
Hurley asks about how to find the French woman and Sayid wants to know why. He says he was just making conversation and leaves. As he walks away, he pulls a map from under his shirt.
Hurley's Flashback - Reporters Flock to Hurley
Hurley is in front of his home, surrounded by reports. One of them asks how he picked the winning numbers and after a brief hesitation, Hurley says, "They just, uh, sort of came to me."He introduces his family, his mom, Carmen, his brother Diego, and his sister-in-law, Lisa. Then he acknowledges the older gentleman beside him and says, "This is the greatest guy I know, my grandpa, Tito. He's worked 3 jobs for...how long has it been now?"
Tito answers that it's been 52 years and Hurley says that he's 70 years old and the closest thing he's had to a vacation is when they put a pacemaker in him four years ago. Hurley plans to send him on a cruise and then make big plans when he comes back.
Suddenly, Tito keels over.
Hurley's Mission
Hurley fills bottles of water. Charlie comes up and says hi. "What?" Hurley says. "I'm not doing anything."Charlie asks if he's going somewhere and Hurley says, "Me? No. Well, yeah. Just thought I might take a walk. Uh, maybe scope out some new fishing area."
Charlie tells him to hold on and he'll come too.
"Dude," Hurley says, "I could really use some alone time right now."As Hurley stands, his pack unzips and four bottles of water tumble out.
