Not the Boss


Walt shows up at Locke's fire. Locke tells him that Michael doesn't want them spending time together. "He's not the boss of me," Walt says.

Locke says, "But he's your father, and he cares about you, and you need to show him respect." He tells Walt not to come around anymore, just as Michael storms in.

"What's wrong with you?" Michael demands of Locke.

Locke tells him that he was just giving Walt a pencil as a peace offering for Michael.

Michael gets close to Locke and says, "I catch you with my son again, I'll kill you."

Walt says, "You ain't my father."

Michael says, "You want to hate me? You want to punish me for something I can't change? Fine. But you will listen to me!" He throws Walt's comic book on the fire. The book is open to the picture of a giant polar bear and Walt and Michael watch it burn.

Michael's Flashback - Giving Up Walt

Michael is in the hospital, in a wheelchair, with a his leg in a cast. He's drawing a detailed picture of a man covered in bandages. A nurse compliments the drawing and he says that it's for his son, who is turning two next week.

Susan comes into the hospital room and Michael is excited to see her, hoping she's brought Walt, but she hasn't. She came because she was concerned that she hadn't heard from him for over two months and had called a friend to find out why.

Susan pushes Michael's wheelchair around the hospital. Michael asks what she is doing here and she says that she wants to pay his medical expenses. Michael is happy, but then gets suspicious and asks her why.

Susan admits that she and Brian are getting married and moving to Italy. Brian wants to adopt Walt. Michael is very upset!

Dude, Your Kid's Gone

Hurley approaches Michael and says, "Dude, your kid's gone."

Michael looks defeated. "I know where he's gone."

Michael finds Locke and asks where Walt is. Locke has no idea, and Michael gets scared. "Let's go find your boy," Locke says.

Charlie's Diary Dilemma

Charlie has Claire's diary and is having a really hard time not reading it. He takes it out of the backpack, looks at it, then puts it down, then looks at it, then puts it down and walks around.

Walt is alone with his dog in the jungle. Something roars and Vincent barks, straining on his leash. Vincent breaks free and runs, and Walt runs after him.

Walt's Flashback - The Bird

Walt is staring at Vincent in their home in Australia. His mom and Brian talk of their work day and Walt says he needs help with his homework on birds. "I'm a lawyer, sweetheart. I can tell when someone's stalling," Susan says to Walt.

Walt continues to try to get their attention, but the adults keep talking, paying Walt no mind. Suddenly something thuds against the window and they go to the window to see on the deck, a dead bird. Brian stares at Walt with a mixture of fear and amazement.

Jungle Noises

Walt searches for Vincent. He's startled by another noise.

Michael's Flashback - Brian Doesn't Want Walt

Michael answers the door. The man introduces himself as Brian. "Susan's Brian?" Michael asks.

"Can I come in? I need to talk to you," Brian says. Michael lets him in and asks if Susan knows he is here.

"Susan died yesterday," Brian tells Michael.
Michael is flustered and asks about Walt. He is upset that Brian left Walt the day after his mother died. Brian explains that he never wanted to be a father and he adopted Walt for Susan.

Michael points out that Walt doesn't know him and that he hasn't seem him for nine years. He thinks that Walt needs Brian during this trying time.

Brian says he is too upset over Susan and he can't take care of Walt. He gives Michael two plane tickets and money for traveling and tells him to come get Walt. Michael gets upset and throws him out. As he's leaving, Brian says, "There's something about him. Sometimes when he's around, things happen. He's different somehow."

Walt Cries for Help

Michael and Locke find Vincent's leash and hear Walt crying for help. They run in his direction.

Michael's Flashback - The Wooden Box

Michael is in the home of Brian in Australia. A nanny says that Walt will be home from school any minute. She gives Michael some of Susan's stuff and then says, "There's something else." She gives him a wooden box. Michael asks what it is and she says, "Something I think Walt should have," and she turns and walks away.

Michael opens the box to find all the letters he'd sent to Walt over the years. Vincent barks and the nanny tells Walt there is someone here to see him. Michael looks terrified as he walks down the hallway.
