Flashbacks in Italics
Michael is wandering through the jungle yelling for Walt. He asks Hurley and Jack if they've seen Walt, but neither has. Michael asks Jack if he listened to his father when he was 10 and Jack says, "Probably too much."
Michael continues on and Hurley says to Jack, "Seems to hate it, doesn't he? Being a dad?" Jack says it's a lot of hard work and Hurley says, "Nah, he hates it." Michael is in the distance, yelling for Walt.
Michael's Flashback - Baby Walt
Michael and his pregnant girlfriend, Susan, are in a department store looking at cribs. Michael says that he is going to get a construction job to gain money for the baby. Susan asks about his art and Michael says that construction will be just for awhile. When Susan finishes law school and gets a fancy job, then he can go back to his art. Michael wants only the best for baby Walt."Walt, huh?" Susan asks. "Walter Lloyd," she says.
"Oh," says a laughing Michael, "so that's why you won't marry me. You want the baby to have your last name."
"You want me to agree to Walter or what?" she says, and they go on laughing and talking.
Knife Throwing
Locke teaches Walt how to throw a knife at a tree while Boone looks on. Walt misses several times and gets discouraged, but Locke tells him to picture success in his minds eye. Walt thinks a moment, then throws the knife, hitting the knot in the tree dead on. Boone is amazed, Locke is proud, and Walt is thrilled."I actually saw it, in my mind or something, like it was real!" Walt says.
Michael finds the knife throwing group and takes the knife from Walt, then sends him back to camp. Walt protests, then stomps off. As soon as he's gone, Michael yells at Locke, all the while waving the knife around.
Boone jumps Michael and they wrestle a bit. Locke breaks them up and says to Michael that Walt is different. "Maybe you haven't spent enough time with him to see it," Locke says, which makes Michael even angrier.
"As long as we're here," Locke says, "I think Walt should be allowed to realize his potential."
Michael's Flashback - Susan's Opportunity
Michael is playing with his baby boy. Susan tells Michael about a job opportunity she has in Amsterdam. She plans on taking it and she plans on taking Walt with her. He wants to know what is wrong with the law clinic here and she says, "This is a huge opportunity! You know I've always wanted to do international law."She says that they had talked about spending time apart anyway and Michael agrees they have problems, but doesn't want her to take Walt away. He suggests they see a counselor. Susan looks down and Michael says, "Oh, man. You already took it, didn't you?"
She admits that she has and says that she'll be able to provide for Walt and give him everything he needs. "Except a father!" Michael says.
"Who do you think the court is going to side with?" she asks.
