"Whatever the Case May Be" Recap

Part 2

By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Try and Try Again

Sayid approaches Shannon, who is sunbathing on the beach. He asks her to translate the maps and papers that he took from Rousseau. She says that she barely speaks French and he asks her to please try.

Meanwhile, Sawyer tries to pick the lock of the case.

Passing by, Michael says, "If you pick the lock on a Halliburton, I'll put you on my back and fly us to L.A."
"You better find yourself a runway, Daddy, 'cus there ain't a lock I can't pick," Sawyer says.

Hurley asks what Sawyer is doing and Michael tells him and then they both laugh. Michael says the only way to open the case is with pure force.

The Axe

Boone is hiking through the jungle carrying the axe. He finds Locke, who is happy that Boone got the axe. "Isn't there an easier way to get there?" asks Boone. Locke is concerned that someone may have seen Boone take the axe, but Boone assures him that no one did.

Rude Charlie

Rose is dragging some stuff and says hello to Charlie as she passes. Charlie doesn't answer.
"Oh, that's right," Rose says, "you're not talking much these days, but it doesn't mean you get to be rude."
"Excuse me?" Charlie says.

"You think you're the only one on this island that has something to be sad about? Baby, I got sob stories for you, so why don't you grab the end of this thing and help me?"

Reluctantly, Charlie gets up and helps Rose.

Just Tell Sawyer What's in the Case

Sawyer bashes the case against a rock, but it doesn't open. He tries a few more times and climbs a little cliff, throwing it down on some boulders. Suddenly Kate pops out of hiding, snatches the case, and runs off. Sawyer runs after her.

Sawyer catches up to Kate and another wrestling match between the two ensues. Kate tries to head-butt him, but he dodges, telling her she needs a new move. She head-butts him again, successfully this time, and he says that he will give her the case if she tells him what's in it.

"Are you serious?" Kate asks.

"I don't really care what it is," Sawyer says. "What's burning me up is why it means so much to you."

Kate's Flashback - Kate Handles A Gun

The bank manager refuses to give the robbers the key to the money cage. One of the customers jumps one of the robbers, and his gun flies across the floor, stopping in front of Kate. The customer tells Kate to pick it up and start shooting and she says that she doesn't know how to use a gun. The customer starts listing instructions, then the lead robber grabs Kate by the neck and pulls her into the other room.

Once there, he takes off his mask. "I don't know how to use a gun?" he says, and they both laugh, then embrace with a passionate kiss.

Other Languages

Shannon is with Sayid, trying to translate Rousseau's papers. "I can't do it," she says.

"You can if you think you can," he says and asks where she learned French. She answers that she kind of lived in St Tropez for awhile.

Meanwhile, Sun is setting up some plants and Jack asks what they are for. She speaks in Korean and then points to the plant and points to her head. "Headache?" he asks, and she nods.

Kate finds Jack in the caves and says, "We have a problem."

"We have a problem or you have a problem?" he asks.

Kate glances at Sun, and feeling comfortable speaking in front of her since Sun supposedly doesn't understand English, Kate says that the Marshal had a silver case with traveling money, personal things and four nine-millimeters with a few boxes of ammo."

"Guns?" says Jack.

Kate explains that Sawyer hasn't been able to get it open, but it is only a matter of time. Jack wants to know why she needs him and she says, "I know where the key is. The Marshal kept it in his wallet in his back pocket."

"I buried him, Kate."

"I know," she says. "Where?"

Jack is suspicious. "What else is in that case?"

She says that it's just the guns that she's worried about and Jack says, "If you want my help, we're going to open the case together." Kate agrees.

They go to the grave of the Marshal and Kate asks why Jack didn't burn him with the others in the fuselage. Jack says, "I needed to bury him." They dig.
