Flashbacks in Italics

Kate is up in a tree picking fruit. She climbs down and in the distance hears a twig snap, then another. She picks up a rock and throws it in the direction of the noise. Sawyer comes out holding his knee, where she had hit him with the rock.

She asks if he is stalking her, and he says he was protecting her.

"From what?" Kate asks. "Southern perverts?"

They talk for a moment and then hear water. They find a waterfall and lagoon and both jump in, playing in the water. They dive underneath and run into two corpses, still strapped to their plane seats.

They surface. Sawyer says he's going back down, and Kate goes with him. While Sawyer goes through a wallet, Kate spots a silver Halliburton case, and tries to get it loose. They surface and she tells Sawyer that the case is hers and could he help her get it.

They go under water again and Sawyer comes up with the case. Sawyer asks if she has the key on her, and then watches as she examines the case. He guesses the case isn't really hers and she admits that it's not. "Well, you wouldn't mind if I just take it?" he says.

"I don't care," she says.

"Something you want to tell me about this little suitcase, Freckles?" Sawyer asks.
"Take it," she says, and watches him stroll away with it.

Rousseau's Maps

Survivors scurry to move their belongings as the tide comes in. Jack thinks everyone should move inland because if this keeps up, the fuselage will be under water in a matter of days.

Jack talks to Sayid about Rousseau. He wants to know what Sayid has found out from the maps that he took from her place. Sayid can't figure them out because he can't translate the French. Also, he's skilled in mathematics and decryptions, but the equations are unlike anything he's ever seen.

Jack wants Sayid to take him to the French woman, but Sayid refuses, saying it's a bad idea.

Boone finds Shannon reading a magazine on the beach. She asks where he's been, because he's been leaving every day at sunrise and not returning until after dark. He says that he and Locke have been out searching for Claire. He wishes that Shannon would do something instead of being so useless.

That night, Kate sits by the fire. As Sawyer walks by carrying the case, she stares at the case.

Kate's Flashback - Bank Robbery

Kate is in a bank in New Mexico, applying for a loan. The man on the other side of the desk calls her "Miss Ryan". Kate tells him that she is a photographer commissioned to do a coffee table book on old movie theatres in small towns.

The man suggests one in Ruidoso and she promises to acknowledge him in her book if she uses his lead. Suddenly the bank is overrun by three robbers. One of them tells the bank manager to open the money cage before people start getting killed.

Kate Wants the Case

Sawyer is sleeping with the case between his knees. Kate sneaks up and tries to take it, but he wakes up and gets her in a leg lock. They wrestle a bit and Kate tells him to get off of her.
"Golly," Sawyer says, "I hate to bicker about positions, sweetheart. But I think you're the one on top. Maybe you're not here for the case at all."
Kate head-butts Sawyer, then orders him to give her the case, but he doesn't.
