At night, Jin is laying on the ground after being knocked out by Sayid. On the walkie comes, "Hello, Jin? Are you there?"
Jin comes to and looks at the walkie.
"Jin can you hear me?"
Jin grabs it and mutters, "Hello."
"Jin, it's Phil. Where are you, man? The hostile escaped. We're searching the east grid."
"He's headed north," Jin says.
"How the hell did you know that?" Phil asks.
"Because he attacked me." Jin sees Ben laying on the ground and gets up. He puts the walkie away while Phil says, "What? Where are you? Jin are you still there? Jin? Jin?"
Jin rolls Ben over and Ben says, "Please help."
Jin puts Ben in the Dharma bus and drives away.
At the Barracks, Horace says, "Okay, everyone, listen up. We don't know yet if another attack is coming. So everyone needs to be ready for your security assignments, okay? Make sure you're in contact with your team leaders. LaFleur's got search parties out, but the hostile's got a good jump on us. We're pretty sure he used this fire as a diversion in order to escape."
Hurley whispers to Jack, "Is he talking about Sayid?"
To Horace, Jack says, "If he was locked up, how did he start the fire?"
"Who are you?" Horace asks.
"Jack Shephard. I'm new."
"Well, Jack, the way he started the fire is he had help, okay? Somebody torched that van and then that somebody let him out of his cell. And since the security cameras didn't pick up any hostiles crossing the perimeter, that means it was one of us. Baxter, I want a full report on clean up, A.S.A.P."
"You got it boss."
Sitting by a tree, Kate hears, "Hey, you?"
She looks behind her to see who the man is talking to, but no one is there and she indicates herself.
"Yeah, you," Roger Linus says. "You're in the motor pool, right?"
"Uh, yeah."
"You mind running that winch for me?"
She looks at a winch on a Dharma jeep that is attached to the Dharma bus that had been on fire and crashed into the house.
"You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?" He walks over. "Okay, no worries. Just throw this lever and when I tell you to stop, pull it up." He walks over to the bus. "Don't do it until I'm ready."
"Okay," she says.
He gets beside the bus and says, "Alright, crank her up."
Kate puts the lever down and the bus begins to back out.
"So," Roger says, "they just put you in the motor pool when you got here?"
"Yeah, pretty much."
"Yeah, same thing happened to me." The bus comes free of the house and Roger tells her to hold up. He walks over to her and says, "I guess they couldn't sucker anybody into getting onto that sub if they told us we were going to be grease monkeys and janitors."
"Well, you've got to start somewhere, right?"
"Yeah. What's your name?"
"I'm Kate."
"Welcome aboard, Kate. I'm Roger, Roger Linus."
Kate pauses a moment, recognizing the name. "It's nice to meet you, Roger."
Jin drives in and takes Ben out of the bus.
"That's my kid," Roger says. "That's my kid!"
Kate's Flashback - Cassidy
Kate drives through a neighborhood with baby Aaron in a car seat in the back. She's listening to Patsy Cline.She finds the house she's looking for and pulls into the driveway. She takes Aaron out of his car seat and sings Catch a Falling Star to him as she walks to the house and rings the doorbell.
Cassidy answers the door and at first doesn't recognize Kate, but then says, "Oh my God," and hugs her. "I saw you on the news. I told all my friends, 'I know that woman.'"
Cassidy says hi to the baby and Kate says, "This is Aaron."
"You survived the plane crash."
Kate nods.
"That's amazing. I never thought I'd see you again. What are you doing here?"
"Sawyer sent me."
Later, inside, Cassidy thumbs through an envelope full of money and says, "Sawyer. So that son-of-a-bitch is still alive?"
"He was when I left," Kate says.
"And he asked you to come here and give me an envelope full of money?"
"Well, he told me where to find you, and said to take care of Clementine? His daughter?"
"Well she's asleep in her crib right now. You want me to wake her up?"
"I, uh, shouldn't have bothered." Kate gets up. "I could have sent it."
"Why did you tell me all this? Why'd you trust me?"
"Because I thought your daughter had a right to know that her father cared."
"Why didn't he come back with the rest of you?"
"The helicopter that we were on was running out of gas, so he jumped so that we could make it to the boat."
Cassidy sighs. "What a coward."
"He was trying to do the right thing."
"He was trying to get away from you. I told him he had a daughter, he never so much as lifted a finger to try to call her. So now I'm supposed to think he's a hero because he told you to come and try and help us? Hell, I bet this money isn't even his, is it?"
"They gave us a settlement after the crash and I didn't need it all--"
"You don't have to explain it, Kate, you've got the same look on your face as I did when he ditched me. All I have for you is sympathy. Is it his?"
"What?"
"Your son. Is it Sawyer's?"
Kate sits. "No. I was pregnant before I met him."
"That's not your baby, is it? Kate, you just told me that you and your friends cooked a story for the whole world about what happened on that island. So you tell me the truth about that, why are you lying to me about him?"
"Because I have to."
