Jack opens his eyes. He's lying on his back on the island. He sits up and looks around, then stands and looks at the torn piece of paper in his hand that says, 'I wish'. He hears someone yelling for help and runs to a lagoon, where Hurley is struggling to stay afloat holding on to a guitar case. Jack jumps from the cliff into the water and helps Hurley.They stand in the water and look around. "It really happened," Hurley says.
Jack sees Kate at the edge of the water and swims to her and rolls her over. He calls her name and she opens her eyes. She wonders where Sun and Sayid are. Jack asks if either of them remember crashing and they both say no.
He says they should split up and look for people from the plane. Just then, a Dharma bus drives up and a man gets out and points a gun at them. It's Jin.
Episode 5x8, LaFleur
Jack gets out of the Dharma van and sees Sawyer.Episode 5x9, Namaste
Sawyer tells Jack, Kate, and Hurley that they are in 1977. He's going to get them in on the Dharma Initiative, saying they came in on the sub. When Sawyer mentions Faraday, Jack wants to know if he's there and Sawyer says not anymore. Sawyer tells them to watch the meet and greet video and when their names are called to smile and get their jump suits and work assignments.Jack is taken to Pierre Chang to be processed in. Pierre apologizes for the disorganization and tells him that he is not the one who usually does this. Jack is assigned to workman, which Pierre explains is janitorial and the best work for him based on his aptitude test.
After taking a picture with the new recruits, Jack finds out where Sawyer lives and is surprised that Juliet answers the door. They hug.
Sawyer tells Jack that he is taking care of things now and that Sawyer will figure out how to save Sayid.
Episode 5x10, He's Our You
Jack tells Hurley that he's happy letting Sawyer make the decisions.Episode 5x11, Whatever Happened, Happened
On Sawyer's order, Miles puts Hurley, Jack, and Kate under house arrest so he can get control of the Ben and Sayid situation. Sawyer comes to the house to get Jack because Ben needs a surgeon, but Jack won't help him.Kate wants Jack to help Ben and Jack says he did that already, 30 years from now. He told Kate that he did it for her and he's not going to do it again.
Episode 5x13, Some Like it Hoth
Jack cleans a classroom for Roger, but Roger doesn't want his help. Roger asks if Jack knows Kate because he thinks she had something to do with Ben's disappearance. Jack says Kate would never hurt Ben and that Roger has had too much to drink.Jack goes to Sawyer and tells him that Roger suspects Kate, but he doesn't think he'll go to Horace or tell anyone.
Episode 5x14, The Variable
Sawyer tells them they have to leave the Dharma Initiative and they have two choices, commandeer the sub and get out of there, or go into the jungle and start at square one. Jin says he wants to stay to look for Sun, and Hurley says he wants to stay, too, because they worked so hard to get back to the island and if they left that would be wishy-washy.Jack says that they don't belong there and he wants to help Daniel find his mother so that they can get back to where they belong. Sawyer wants Kate to go with him, which upsets Juliet and she gives Kate the code to the sonic fence.
Jack and Kate decide to take Daniel to the hostiles. They go to the motor pool to get guns. Radzinsky catches them and they have a shoot out. The three are able to get away and go to the pylons. Kate turns off the fence and they continue on foot. Daniel tells them that he wants to detonate a hydrogen bomb to stop the energy under the Swan site from being released, which will mean the hatch is not built and the button won't have to be pushed and the plane won't crash.
They find the hostiles and Kate stops Jack from stopping Daniel from going in.
Episode 5x15, Follow the Leader
Jack and Kate watch from the bushes as Daniel talks to Richard, demanding to see Eloise. Daniel is shot and Jack wants to go to him, but Kate says they have to get out of there. Charles Widmore comes and captures them and takes them into camp. Eloise asks them to explain and Jack says she won't believe them. She promises she will. She asks how her handwriting is in Daniel's journal when she doesn't remember writing it. Jack says she hasn't written it yet. He says they need to get to the bomb.Eloise agrees to take them to the bomb. She says that they have to swim under a pond to get to the tunnels and Kate says she's not going. Kate wants to go back and find the rest of their people. She starts to leave, but Erik points a gun at her and says she can't. Sayid shoots Eric before he can shoot Kate.
Kate leaves and Jack says he understands if Sayid wants to leave too. Jack swims to the tunnels and Sayid follows. Sayid says that the only reason Eloise is helping them is so she can annihilate the Dharma Initiative. Jack says he trusts her because 30 years from now she's going to tell them how to get back to the island.
She takes them to the bomb.
