By Bonnie Covel, About.com

Hurley in Lost episode 5x9, Namaste

Hurley arrives at Dharma

ABC/Mario Perez

Episode 5x6, 316

Hurley struggles to stay afloat in a lagoon holding on to a guitar case. Jack jumps from the cliff into the water and helps Hurley.

They stand in the water and look around. "It really happened," Hurley says.

Jack sees Kate at the edge of the water and swims to her and rolls her over. He calls her name and she opens her eyes. She wonders where Sun and Sayid are. Jack asks if either of them remember crashing and they both say no.

He says they should split up and look for people from the plane. Just then, a Dharma bus drives up and a man gets out and points a gun at them. It's Jin.

Episode 5x8, LaFleur

Hurley gets out of the Dharma van and sees Sawyer.

Episode 5x9, Namaste

Hurley is happy to see Sawyer and even happy to get a nickname. Sawyer tells them that they are in 1977. He tells them to wait there. When Sawyer returns he tells them that they will be part of the new Dharma recruits coming in on the sub. Hurley is afraid they will ask him questions about 1977 that he won't know. Sawyer says that he's got their backs.

Episode 5x10, He's Our You

Hurley seems to enjoy his position as Dharma chef. He brings Kate and Jack some food and lets it slip that Sawyer and Juliet are together. Kate hadn't known, but Hurley thought that it was obvious.

Episode 5x11, Whatever Happened, Happened

Hurley looks at his hand to see if he's disappearing and Miles says he's an idiot. Hurley says that if Ben dies, then they shouldn't exist. Miles says that it doesn't work that way. They have already lived their past and part of their future and it happened before what is happening to them right now, so any of them can die. But Ben can't die because this is his past.

Hurley tries to stump Miles, but Miles can answer all his questions until Hurley asks why Ben didn't remember Sayid from 1977 when Sayid tortured Ben in the Swan Station. Hurley is pleased that he was able to stump Miles.

Episode 5x13, Some Like it Hoth

Hurley has sandwiches to deliver to the workers at the Orchid Station. He wants to go with Miles, since Miles is going anyway, but Miles doesn't want him to. Miles gives in and Hurley jumps in the passenger seat. On the way, Hurley writes in a Dharma notebook and won't tell Miles what he's writing.

Hurley smells something, and worried about his sandwiches, tells Miles to pull over. While Hurley moves around the ice chests, he finds a dead body in the back and asks Miles about him. Miles says that the man was digging a hole and his filling came loose and blew through his brain.

Hurley wants to know if Miles can talk to dead people, but Miles won't say. Hurley says that Miles' secret is safe with him because he can talk to dead people too.

As they drive, Hurley tells Miles about his ability to talk to the dead. Miles says it doesn't work that way, and Hurley says it does for him and Miles is just jealous because Hurley's power is better.

When they get to the Orchid Station, Pierre Chang is mad that Hurley is with them and tells Hurley that if he says anything about the body, Pierre will ship him to Hydra island where he can weigh polar bear turds. Hurley promises not to tell.

When Pierre walks away, Hurley calls him a douche and Miles says that Pierre is his father.

Pierre returns and Miles drives with Pierre in the front and Hurley in the back. Hurley asks all sorts of questions about Pierre's family and finds out he has a 3-month-old names Miles. He says that they should all get together for a beer.

They drop Pierre off at a secret worksite, which Hurley recognizes as the beginnings of the Swan Station when two men stamp the numbers on the hatch door. On the way back to the Barracks, Hurley says that Miles should get to know his father better and Miles says he doesn't want to know. Miles takes Hurley's notebook and Hurley says that since Star Wars just came out, he's writing the sequel for George Lucas, The Empire Strikes Back, because he'd seen it so many times. He's helping George Lucas by writing the script and making a few improvements.

Later, Miles apologizes to Hurley and Hurley says that it's just like with Luke. When he found out Vader was his father he went all crazy and ended up losing a hand. Eventually they worked it out, but could have worked it out sooner if they would have just communicated.

Episode 5x14, The Variable

Sawyer tells them they have to leave the Dharma Initiative and they have two choices, commandeer the sub and get out of there, or go into the jungle and start at square one. Jin says he wants to stay to look for Sun, and Hurley says he wants to stay, too, because they worked so hard to get back to the island and if they just left that would be wishy-washy.

Episode 5x15, Follow the Leader

Hurley packs food and then finds Miles and Jin in the jungle. Pierre Chang follows Hurley and asks if they are really from the future. Hurley says that's ridiculous and Pierre begins to grill Hurley, finally breaking him when he asks who the President of the United States is.

Later, Hurley, Jin, and Miles watch as Sawyer and Juliet are put on the sub.

Episode 5x16, The Incident

When Jack and Sayid sneak into the Dharma Barracks, trying to get out with the bomb, they are spotted and a shoot out begins. Hurley drives in with the Dharma bus and rescues them.

Jack says to take them to the Swan site, but Hurley is concerned that Sayid has been shot. Jack yells for him to take them. Hurley stops when the road is blocked by Sawyer, Kate, and Juliet.

Hurley stays with Sayid when Sawyer, Kate, Juliet, and Miles decide to help Jack get the bomb to the Swan site hole.
