Smokey
Sawyer continues to beat on the door and yell. Claire comes out with the baby and asks what's going on."You alright, sweetheart?" Sawyer asks.
"Yeah, a bit wobbly, but I'll live," she says.
"Well I wouldn't be too sure about that," Miles says.
The door opens and Ben walks out. He picks up the walkie talkie and puts it in his pocket.
"What were you doing in there?" Sawyer asks.
"Okay, listen to me very carefully," Ben says. "I need all of you to do exactly what I say. In a moment we have to run from this house as fast as we can. At that moment, when I give the order, I want you to head straight for the tree line."
"You mean towards the guys with guns?" Hurley says.
"No, we want to be as far away from them as possible," Ben says.
The room begins to shake. They look outside to see the smoke monster, like a giant snake, rush to the tree line.
Ben yells, "Outside, now!"
The smoke swirls around in the trees and people scream.
"What did you do?" Locke asks.
"You just call that thing?" Hurley yells.
A man runs toward them, but before Sawyer can shoot, the smoke grabs him and drags him toward the trees.
Everyone but Locke and Ben run. Ben says, "Head for the creek. I'll catch up to you."
"Hey, where you going?"
"I have to say goodbye to my daughter, John." He takes a gun from Locke and goes to Alex. Locke runs the other direction.
Ben closes Alex's eyes and begins to cry. He leans down and kisses her forehead.
Morse Code
Daniel works on the sat phone and says, "I can't believe it, I actually have a signal." He begins to tap Morse code."What are you sending?" Jack asks.
As he taps, Daniel says, "What happened to the doctor?"
Morse code comes back and Daniel says, "Okay, they didn't exactly say what happened to the doctor, but your friends are fine and the helicopter is coming back in the morning."
Kate smiles and Jack looks over at Bernard and says, "Well?"
"He's lying," Bernard says. "What the message said was, 'What are you talking about? The doctor is fine.'"
"You know Morse code," Daniel says.
"What does that mean?" Jack asks, "The doctor is fine?"
"I don't know," Daniel says.
Jack struggles a bit to walk toward Daniel. "Why are you lying? Why did you say that the helicopters are coming back?" Jack grabs Daniel and says, "Were you ever going to take us off this island?"
"No," Daniel says apologetically.
Jack winces. He walks a little ways off and grabs his side.
Ben Lied to Locke
Sawyer and Locke light a torch and Sawyer tells Miles, "I think your chopper buddies went that way if you want to catch up.""Yeah, I think I'll stay with you guys for now."
Sawyer hands him a torch. They hear a noise and train their guns into the jungle. Ben walks out.
"I'm sorry about your daughter," Locke says.
"Thank you, John," Ben says.
"That being said, you lied to me. You told me you didn't know what the smoke monster was."
"You can ask Jacob all about it when we go to the cabin," Ben says.
"Hold on," Sawyer says, "Jacob?" He looks at Locke. "Who the hell is Jacob?"
"He's the man that's going to tell us what to do next, James."
"You know what," Sawyer says, "I'm done with this. We shouldn't have followed you wackos in the first place. I'm going back to the beach and Claire and the kid are coming with me." He looks at Claire. "You good with that?"
"Yeah, I'm good with that," she says.
"I'm coming with you," Miles says.
"You too, Hurley," Sawyer says.
They begin to walk away and Locke looks at Ben, then pulls a gun on Sawyer.
"Have you lost your mind?" Sawyer asks.
"Hugo stays with us," Locke says.
Sawyer pulls a gun on Locke. "Not a chance."
"Wait, leave me out of this," Hurley says.
Locke says, "I'm sorry, Hugo, we need you to find the cabin."
"He ain't going anywhere with you, you crazy son-of-a-bitch."
"Stop!" Hurley says. "Put the guns down, I'll go with Locke."
"Hugo!" Sawyer says.
"It's okay, Sawyer," Hurley says. "Please, put the gun down. You guys go back to the beach. I'll catch up sooner or later."
"You harm as much as one hair on his curly head, I'll kill you," Sawyer says.
"Fair enough," Locke says.
Ben's Flash Forward - Charles Widmore
In London, England, Ben gets out of a taxi and goes into a hotel. He walks straight past the lobby and a man says, "Good evening sir, can I help you?""Oh yes," Ben says. "I'm here to see Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick in room 4E."
"At this hour, sir?"
"They're expecting me. Feel free to call up." Ben is holding the same rod he had before.
"No need. Good night, sir."
In the elevator, Ben pulls out a key to the penthouse. He goes into the suite and finds the bedroom. "Wake up, Charles."
Charles Widmore sits up and turns on the bedside lamp. "I wondered when you were going to show up. I see you've been getting more sun."
"Iraq is lovely this time of year. When did you start sleeping with a bottle of Scotch by the bed?"
"When the nightmares started." He pours himself a glass. "Did you come here to kill me, Benjamin?"
"We both know I can't do that."
"Then why are you here?"
"I'm here, Charles, because you murdered my daughter."
"Don't stand there and look at me with those horrible eyes of yours and lay the blame for the death of that poor girl on me, when we both know very well, I didn't murder her at all, Benjamin. You did."
"No, that's not true."
"Yes, Benjamin, it is. You creep into my bedroom in the dead of night, like a rat, and have the audacity to pretend that you're the victim. I know who you are, boy, what you are. I know that everything you have, you took from me. So, once again I ask you, why are you here?"
"I'm here, Charles, to tell you that I'm going to kill your daughter. Penelope is it? And once she's gone, once she's dead, then you'll understand how I feel and you'll wish you hadn't changed the rules."
"You'll never find her."
Ben turns to walk away and Charles says, "That island's mine, Benjamin, it always was. It will be again."
"But you'll never find it."
"Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us."
"I suppose it is. Sleep tight, Charles." Ben walks out and shuts the door.
