Ben's Word
Ben sits on the floor in the basement reading a book. Locke walks in with a plate of food. Ben looks at it and says, "Rabbit today?""We're running out of chickens."
Ben looks at the rabbit meat. "This didn't have a number on it, did it?"
"What?"
Ben shakes his head.
Locke says, "Eat, change, put your laundry and dishes by the door. I'll be back to collect them in 15 minutes.
Locke walks out and Ben says, "So has the revolution begun yet?"
Locke opens the door. "What are you talking about?"
"You're the leader now. I know it's a tough position. You have to deal with all those people constantly second guessing your decision. And it always starts out so innocent, doesn't it? A question here, a comment there. Then, if you're not careful, you'll find you'll have a full blown insurrection on your hands. Believe me, your people are going to be so angry when they realize you still don't have a plan."
"And I assume you have a plan."
Ben shrugs. "I always have a plan."
"Does it involve you raising 3.2 million dollars? That's a lot of money." Locke hands him a dollar. "Here, maybe this will get you started. Put your laundry and dishes by the door."
Locke walks out and starts to shut the door, but Ben says, "I can help you, John. We have shared interests, or at least a common enemy."
"And that would be our friends on the freighter."
"Not them. The one they work for. Let me out of here. Give me some semblance of freedom, let me sleep in a bed and eat with utensils and I give you my word, I'll tell you everything I know about the people on the freighter-"
"Now see, there's your problem. I don't trust your word."
"Alright, then. I guess I'll have to show you."
What's Ben Going to Do?
Juliet comes out of the ocean in a bathing suit. Goodwin sits on a blanket on the sand. She walks over and he throws her a towel. He pours them wine and says, "I hope this is good. I don't know much about wine. I swiped this off the sub."Juliet gets on the blanket next to him.
"I wish we could do this all the time. I hate that we have to be so private," Goodwin says.
"What's the matter with being private?"
"It's ridiculous, I've been sleeping on the couch for a year. Why am I not just telling her?"
"I don't think it's a good idea."
"Why not?"
"Ben wouldn't like it."
"That's what this is about? You're worried about Ben? Why? Because he has a crush on you?"
"You know?"
"Come on, everyone knows. He follows you around like a puppy."
"And you don't think that's a problem?"
"A little less than a kilometer from here, he has me working with chemicals. I can kill every man, woman, and child on this island if I flip the wrong switch. Trust me, Ben has enough on his plate. The last thing he cares about is you and me."
"I just get the feeling that he would be upset."
"What's Ben going to do?"
Later, the plane falls out of the sky as the Others watch. Ben says, "Goodwin, see where the tail landed?"
"Yeah, probably in the water."
"You run, you can make that shore in an hour. Ethan, get up there to the fuselage. There might actually be survivors. You're one of them, a passenger, you're in shock."
As Ben talks, Harper comes out and stands behind Goodwin.
Ben continues, "Come up with an adequate story if they ask. Stay quiet if they don't. Listen, learn, don't get involved. I want lists in three days. Go!"
Harper looks at Juliet.
Goodwin nods at Ben and then at Juliet. Harper looks accusingly at Juliet.
Kate
Jack and Juliet run through the jungle and come to a stream. Jack says, "There's something wrong, we should have caught up to them by now."Juliet says that they stepped out of a helicopter and they should give them the benefit of the doubt. They hear moaning and find Kate laying by the stream.
"Hey, it's okay," Jack says. "Take it easy."
"I'll go get her some water," Juliet says.
Jack helps Kate sit up and asks what happened.
"I was going back to the beach and I ran into Faraday and that woman, Charlotte."
"They disappeared out of camp last night," Jack says. "We've been trying to catch up with them." He examines the wound on Kate's head.
"Do you know where they were headed?"
"Some sort of power station."
"Jack, they had gas masks."
Jack looks around. "Juliet? Juliet?" He picks up his gun and looks for her.
