Batteries
Charlotte and Daniel squat by a steam, looking at a map. "Think it's that way," he says. "What happens if I can't do it?" Daniel says."Dan, look at me. I know you can do this. We should get going," Charlotte says.
"Yeah, of course," Daniel says.
Kate walks out from cover and is surprised to see them. Charlotte pulls her gun, but Daniel says it's okay.
A bit later, Kate dips a bottle into the steam and Daniel says, "So they have Miles?"
"Yeah," Kate says, "but he's fine. They're treating him fine. I thought you two were with Jack at the beach. What are you guys doing out here?"
Charlotte looks at Daniel and then says, "Jack was trying to communicate with Sayid and Desmond on the freighter, but the sat phone ran out of juice. It's totally dead. There's no way we can call the boat."
Kate sees the satellite phone in Charlotte's pack, green light on.
"So we volunteered to get the spare batteries from our packs that we threw out of the chopper."
Kate says to Daniel, "So, if you threw your pack from the chopper, what's that?" He's carrying a duffel bag.
"This, uh, this, I just borrowed this," Daniel says.
"Mind if I take a look?" Kate says.
Charlotte shrugs and says, "Go ahead, Dan, show her."
Kate unzips the bag and pulls out a gas mask. "Batteries, huh? What's this-?"
Charlotte hits her with her pistol. Daniel catches Kate and looks up at Charlotte.
"What?" Charlotte says.
Other Stress
Jack follows Juliet through the jungle. He asks, "That woman, what's her name?""Harper."
"The two of you friends?"
"Not exactly. She was my therapist."
"You people have therapists?"
"It's very stressful being an Other, Jack."
"She seemed kind of hostile, even for a therapist."
"I'm sure there are things from your past that you'd rather not talk about."
"Yeah," he says. "You read them all in my file."
"Trust me, Jack, you don't want to see my file."
Egg Salad on Rye
Juliet looks into a microscope as Ben stares at her. She says, "The problem occurs sometime during the second trimester when the mother's immune system is triggered. The white blood cell count plummets. It's like the immune system turns on the fetus.""May I?" Ben says and Juliet moves so that he can look through the microscope. He puts his hand so that it's touching hers and she moves her hand away. "Any thought on a cause?"
"It's really too early to tell," she says. "But only women who've conceived on the island does it happen to, which makes me wonder-"
The door opens and Goodwin comes in. "Hey, Juliet. Oh, Ben, I didn't know you were here. Ethan's out sick. I have an extra egg salad on rye. I was just checking to see if Juliet wants it."
"Thanks, I already ate. Besides, I have an appointment with your wife in ten minutes."
"Great, tell her I said hi."
Goodwin asks if Ben would like the sandwich, but he declines.
Later, in Harper's office, Harper asks Juliet, "So, what do you think of Ben?"
"He's great. Very smart and intense, challenging. He's been really good to me."
"Of course he has, you look just like her," she says under her breath.
"I'm sorry?"
"And I see you and my husband have become friendly."
"Yeah, he's great. He's been really helpful."
"When did you start sleeping with him?"
"What?"
"Look, Juliet, I'm not an idiot. So just tell me. When did it start?"
"Okay, I'm not doing this. We're done." She gets up, but Harper blocks her.
"Please respect me enough to spare me the pretense that you are actually offended. I know. I followed you. Watched you."
"I'm sorry."
"It doesn't matter anymore. What does matter is that you listen to me and that you believe me. Now if you continue to have a relationship with Goodwin, there will be consequences. I don't want him to get hurt."
"I would never hurt him."
"I am not talking about you, I'm talking about Ben."
Whose Boat it Isn't
Locke cuts up a rabbit. Claire walks over, carrying Aaron. "Hi, John.""Hey, Claire. Is there something I can do for you?"
"I want to know what's going on with Miles."
"Right now not a whole lot. I'm bringing him food and water until he decides to talk."
"I'd like to talk to him myself."
Locke stops and looks at her. "Why would you want to do that?"
"John, we have to find out who these people are and where they came from. And why they're not interested in rescuing us."
"And you don't think that I'm going to get that out of them?"
"No, I just think we might be taking the wrong approach. I mean, you killed one, Ben shot one, and now we're holding one prisoner. It's not hard to understand why they might think we're hostile. I might be just a little less intimidating."
"It's not going to happen, Claire."
"John."
"You do remember what Charlie said about these people."
"All Charlie said is whose boat it isn't. Don't you want to know whose boat it is?"
