Kate's Flash Forward - Jack
In the courtroom, the bailiff asks everyone to rise as the judge comes in.Kate's attorney, Duncan, leans over to her and says, "Don't fire me, okay?"
"What?"
"We got killed in the opening. I had to do this."
"Does the defense have a witness?" the judge asks.
"Yes we do, Your Honor. The defense calls Dr. Jack Shephard."
Jack walks into the courtroom and he and Kate's eyes meet. Jack smiles at her.
The D.A. says, "Your Honor, I'd like to renew my objection to this witness on the basis of relevance."
"And I'm going to renew my overruling of your objection," the judge says. He tells the jury to be aware that the witness did not know the defendant until after the alleged crime and is to be viewed as a character witness only.
The bailiff swears Jack in. Duncan asks Jack to tell the jury, in case there are any of them that aren't current on their news, how he met the defendant."
"On September 22, 2004, Kate-uh, Ms. Austen and I were both passengers on Oceanic Flight 815, which crash landed on an island in the South Pacific."
"Were you aware that Ms. Austen was a fugitive being transported by a United States Marshal on that flight to Los Angeles for trial?"
"I did learn that eventually, yes."
"From the U.S. Marshal?"
"No, the Marshal died in the crash. I never spoke to him. Ms. Austen told me."
"Did you ever ask her if she was guilty?"
"No, never."
"Well it seems like a reasonable question. Why not?"
"I just assumed that there'd been some kind of mistake."
"And why would you think that?"
"Only eight of us survived the crash. We landed in the water. I was hurt pretty badly. In fact, if it weren't for her, I never would have made it to shore. She took care of me. She took care of all of us. She gave us first aid, water, found food and shelter. She tried to save the other two, but-"
Kate stands. "Stop."
"Ms. Austen, sit down," the judge says.
"This has nothing to do with anything," Kate says. "This is my trial and I don't want him to say anything else."
"It's fine," Duncan says, "I don't have anymore questions."
Ms. Dunbrook, the D.A., gets up and says, "That was very moving, Dr. Shephard. I only have one question for you. Do you love the defendant?"
"Objection," Duncan says.
"You opened this door, Mr. Forrester, I'm going to allow it," the judge says.
Jack says, "No, not anymore."
Kate uses Sawyer
Sawyer reads while Hurley messes with the TV. "So, what do you want to watch," Hurley asks, "Zanado or Satan's Doom?""I'm reading," Sawyer says.
Hurley turns on the TV and it's really loud. He turns it down and there is a knock at the door. Sawyer answers and it's Kate. She asks if she can come in and then walks in."
"I believe you know my roommate," Sawyer says.
"Hi, Hurley," Kate says.
"Hey, Kate," he says and then winks.
"You got something in your eye, Hugo?" Sawyer asks. "Why don't we talk in the kitchen," he says to Kate.
They go into the kitchen and he pulls out a box of Dharma wine. "So, how's life at Casa de Claire? Baby Aaron keeping you up all night?"
"No, no, he's a good sleeper."
"Good for you." He hands her a glass of wine, but doesn't let go. "You are terrible at this, Freckles."
"Terrible at what?"
"You already said you didn't stay behind for me, so at least be woman enough to tell me you want to use me for something."
She leans forward. "I want to use you for something."
"See, it wasn't that hard. For what?"
"For Ben. I want you to help me bust him out."
Backgammon
Locke lets Sawyer in to play backgammon. They set up the board and Locke says, "Do you think I know what I'm doing?""Huh?"
"Do you regret following me out here? Are you worried about what we should do next?"
"All I know is that I would be a lot more worried if I were sitting on that beach."
"And the rest of the group," Locke says, "what are they saying?"
"I think they're saying, 'baa.' That's the nice thing about sheep, predictable. I ain't so sure about Kate."
"What do you mean?"
"I need your word that you're not going to do nothing to her."
"Why would I do anything to her?"
"Just give me your word." He waits but Locke doesn't say anything, so he says, "Just forget it," and gets up.
Locke gives him his word and Sawyer says, "She came to me about an hour ago and said she wanted help busting Ben out of your basement. She talked to that guy, Bruce Lee from the freighter. That guy you got locked up. He told her to bring Ben to him."
"Well that's impossible. She doesn't even know where Miles is."
"The boathouse down by the dock? If Hugo knows, everybody knows."
Locke gets up. "Are you sure about this?"
"Yeah, I'm sure."
Locke opens a drawer and pulls out a gun.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, where you going with that?"
Locke tosses Sawyer a flashlight. "Whatever Miles has to say to Ben, he can say to me."
Sawyer and Locke run to the boathouse. Locke opens the door to find it empty.
"Son of a bitch," Sawyer says.
