"Even if I took you to her body, you wouldn't know what happened-"
"I'll know!" Miles says. "Now take me to her body!"
Mr. Linus
Locke looks around. His group is taking a break at a stream. Alex and Karl are near where Ben is tied to a tree.Ben calls Alex several times before she says, "What?"
"There's something I need to tell you," Ben says.
"Keep your mouth shut, Mr. Linus," Karl says.
"Karl, now if you're going to sleep with my daughter, I insist you call me Ben."
Karl gets his gun and walks toward Ben. Sawyer comes over and says, "Easy kid." He hands Karl a bottle of water. "Guy's just trying to get in your head. Go take a walk or something."
Alex and Karl walk off.
"Mind if I ask you a question, James?" Ben says.
"Yeah, I do." Sawyer unties the other end of Ben's rope from the tree.
"Why'd you leave Kate behind?"
Sawyer chuckles. "You're wasting your time, Yoda."
"I know it's not pleasant, but let's face it, you really don't stand a chance, now."
Sawyer roughly pulls Ben up. "Chance at what?"
"James," Ben says, "look at yourself. Yes, on this island you're brave, handsome, daring. You're someone. But if you left with them, back in the real world, a low life scam artist like you could never compete with a first class surgeon. I think Kate was really upset when you made your choice to come with us."
Sawyer walks away, roughly pulling Ben along on the rope. Ben says, "Thank goodness she has Jack there to comfort her."
Sawyer turns around and knees Ben in the stomach. He throws him on the ground and punches him.
"James!" Locke says. "Don't!"
"Don't what?" Sawyer says and kicks him. "Anyone want to tell me why we're keeping this guy alive?"
"We're keeping him alive," Locke says, "because he's been on this island a lot longer than any of us. Because he has information we need. And because apart from his mouth, he's completely harmless."
"His mouth put that hole in your gut?"
"Okay, James, let's execute him right here, right now, in front of his daughter."
Sawyer looks over at Alex. He looks down, then over at Hurley. Hurley shakes his head. Sawyer looks at Ben and then to Locke he says, "It's only a matter of time before he gets us, Johnny. And I bet he's already figured out how he's going to do it. So you walk him." He throws the rope to Locke.
The Truth
Miles kneels next to Naomi. His eyes are closed and he's whispering something. Kate and Jack watch."What's he doing?" Kate asks.
Jack looks around. Daniel says, "The light is strange out here, isn't it. It's kind of like it doesn't scatter quite right."
Kate says, "Dan? Your name's Dan, right? Listen, Dan, I know that you don't want anyone to get hurt, so why don't you just put that away." She's talking about the gun he's holding.
"Uh," he says, "because Miles would kill me."
"We're just trying to help."
"Kate," Jack says, "you're wasting your breath. Let's just let this play out and see what happens. Okay?" He winks at Kate.
Miles comes over and says, "They didn't kill her. Happened like they said it did."
The phone starts beeping and Daniel says, "It's Charlotte. She's only three kilometers from here."
Miles takes the phone and presses the touch screen. "Alright, then, let's go get her."
They start to walk off and Kate starts to follow, but Jack stops her. Miles turns and says, "I said, let's go."
"You need to put the guns down," Jack says.
"What?" Miles says.
"Put the guns down," Jack says.
"Now why would I do that?" Miles says.
"Because our friends are out in the jungle right now holding a gun at your head and his head. So I'm going to forget about the misunderstanding. Just put the guns down."
Kate looks around.
Miles says, "Come on, how stupid do you think-"
Two bullets whip past them. Sayid and Juliet come out of cover. Daniel and Miles give up their guns.
"I don't know, Miles," Jack says, "how stupid are you?"
Ursus Maritimus
A truck drives along a dusty road in Medenine, Tunisia. Two women get out at an excavation site. One woman picks up a newspaper that says Flight 815 has been recovered. It's written in French.
The other woman says, "How many different languages do you have to read that in before you believe it's true?"
"How many different languages are there?" she asks.
A man comes over and says something. The second woman, the translator, says, "He wants to know if we're lost."
"Remind him that people in our line of work are terrible about keeping secrets. I know about the dig."
The translator tells the man. Then says, "He says the site is closed."
"Then tell him to open it." She pulls out a wad of money and hands it to him. She walks down to where a big animal's bones are being excavated and the translator follows.
"Dinosaur?" the translator asks.
"Not by a few million years. It's an Ursus maritimus."
"Wait, Ursus, as in bear?"
The woman smiles at the translator, "As in polar bear."
"Charlotte," the translator says, "we're in the desert. This is a hoax, right?"
Charlotte takes a hammer and begins digging right at the nose of the polar bear skull. The man says something and the translator says, "He wants to know what you're doing."
"Excavating," Charlotte says. She pulls out a leather collar with the Hydra logo on it.
"Is that a collar?" the translator asks. Charlotte stares at it and smiles.
Charlotte Meets Locke
Charlotte hangs upside down from her parachute above water. She releases the chute and falls into the water. She comes up and takes off her helmet. Locke's group comes to the bank and looks down at her. "Hi," she says."Hi, yourself," Locke says.
Just Miles
Jack, Kate, Sayid, Juliet, Miles, and Daniel walk through the jungle."We were worried when you didn't get back," Juliet says. "So we went out to the cockpit and tracked you from there."
"Thanks for that, for what it's worth," Jack says.
"Don't mention it," Juliet says and smiles at Jack.
"Somebody could have told me that the Calvary were here," Kate says.
"I gave you that wink," Jack says and Juliet smiles.
"What are your names?" Sayid says.
"I'm Daniel Faraday and this is Miles-"
"Don't tell them my last name!"
Daniel chuckles. "I guess this is just Miles."
