Trust Ben?
Sayid looks out at the ocean. Juliet walks over and says, "Jack still isn't back." She sits down next to him. "Anything?""No. But it's a big island. The freighter could be approaching from the other side."
"That's the spirit," she says.
"Juliet, you lived among the others. Why would Ben say the people coming here intend to do us harm?"
"Because he's a liar and he's trying to scare us. That's what Ben does. Or because the people coming here intend to do us harm. How many guns do you have left?"
Gas Mask
Kate, Jack, and Daniel follow the signal on the phone through the jungle.Kate sees a metal box and asks if it's from the chopper. Daniel starts to say no, but then says yeah, that they reduced the weight load when they started coming down. He gives a nervous chuckle and says, "Guess that's why they pushed me out."
Jack opens the box and pulls out a gas mask. "What's this for?"
"Um, I'm not in charge of, uh, packing, so-"
"You're not, huh?"
"Yeah, we should, uh-"
"Hey, Daniel," Jack says, "why'd you bring the gun?"
"Uh? As a precaution."
"Precaution against what?"
"Uh, okay, see, um, well, you see, rescuing you and your people, I can't really say it's our primary objective."
"Then what is?"
Daniel doesn't answer right away and the phone picks up a signal. "It's Miles! It's Miles," Daniel says and runs off. "Come on."
No Kidney
"What the hell do you mean you saw Walt?" Sawyer says. "In a dream?""No dream," Locke says. "It was Walt, only, taller."
"Taller? What, like a giant?"
Locke looks at him.
"Okay, what exactly did Walt tell you?"
"He said I had work to do, that I had to stop this woman Naomi from bringing the rest of her people here."
"What? You didn't ask any follow up questions?"
"Ben had shot me and left me for dead. Walt saved my life, so I pretty much took him at his word."
Sawyer points to Ben. "He shot you, yet here you are fit as a fiddle, tromping through the jungle."
Locke stops and pulls up his shirt to show Sawyer the bullet wound. "The bullet went in one side and came out the other. I'd probably be dead if I still had a kidney there. Anything else?"
They keep walking.
Miles
Jack, Kate, and Daniel find Miles, laying on some rocks. Daniel yells to him, "Hey, Miles!"Jack runs down to him and Kate and Daniel follow. Jack takes off the helmet and Kate asks if he's dead. Miles pulls a gun on Jack and says, "Back up, handsome."
Jack backs up and Daniel comes running, "Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa!"
"Miles," Daniel says, "take it easy, it's okay. They're here to help us."
Kate slowly reaches for Daniel's gun, but Miles tells her to back away from him and keep her hands where he can see them.
Jack says, "Kate, it's alright, it's okay."
Miles looks at Kate, still keeping the gun trained on Jack. "You're Kate. You want to tell me where Naomi is?"
"What?" Kate says.
"Naomi. The woman you killed. Where is she?"
Miles at Work
In Inglewood, California, Miles pulls a car up to a curb. He's listening to news coverage of Flight 815 on the radio. The announcer says, "...can only be described as the worst case scenario. With the plane accounted for and a salvage mission unlikely, authorities are confirming all 324 passengers dead."
Miles looks at himself in the rearview mirror and then looks at the house. He gets out and gets a suitcase from the trunk. He knocks on the door and a woman answers.
"Mrs. Gardner," Miles says when she opens the door, "I'm Miles Straume. We spoke on the phone earlier."
"Oh, oh, please come in," she says.
He sees a picture of a boy hanging on the wall. Miles looks around and says, "Which room is it?"
"It's upstairs at the end of the hall."
"I get paid in advance. $200. Cash only."
"You told me $100."
"That was before my buddy at the police station told me your grandson was murdered. It's going to be $200."
"Fine," she says and gets the money from a can in the kitchen.
Miles puts together some kind of vacuum type of contraption. He takes her money and counts it, then says, "No matter what you hear, don't come up." He takes the contraption upstairs and shuts the door.
The room looks to belong to a teenage boy. There are a couple of football posters on the wall, one with the number 15. Miles puts the contraption on a desk, plugs it in, and turns it on. A wheel spins and Miles sits on the bed. He starts flinching and then he says, "You're not doing your grandmother any good staying here, man. You're causing her a lot of pain. I want to go downstairs and tell her you've gone. But the only way I'm going to do that, is if you tell me where it is. So where is it?"
Miles hears a noise by a book shelf and moves the book shelf. In a vent he finds a wad of money and some drugs in a paper bag. He smells the drugs, shakes his head, and puts it back, keeping the money. He turns off his machine, opens the door and says, "You can go now."
He goes downstairs and begins putting his contraption into the suitcase.
"Did it work?" Mrs. Gardner asks.
"Yeah, he's at peace now." Miles looks at the pictures on the wall. He pulls some money out of his pocket and gives it to Mrs. Gardner. "Here," he says, "you get a refund. Half off. It wasn't as tricky as I thought."
She hugs him and says thank you.
Naomi's Body
Daniel runs down to where Jack and Miles are. "Hey, Miles, what are you doing? These are good people."Miles says, "Then why'd Naomi use the damn code? Yeah. You remember when she said, 'Tell my sister I love her'? Well she doesn't have a sister. That's what we're supposed to say when we get captured and have a gun to our heads. Like right now, Jack, here, would say, 'Tell my sister I love her.' You get it?"
"We didn't kill your friend," Jack says.
"Then take me to her body," Miles says.
"Miles, what about Charlotte?" Daniel says. "What about Frank?"
"Take me to Naomi!" Miles yells.
Kate says, "Listen, Naomi was killed, but not by us. It was a man by the name of John Locke. He's not with us anymore."
