Episode 4x1, The Beginning of the End
Locke finds Hurley in the jungle near Jacob's cabin. Hurley tells him that Charlie died and about the warning Charlie wrote on his hand. Locke says that they have to convince everyone that the freighter people will not rescue them, or Charlie's death will be for nothing.Locke and Hurley meet up with everyone else and Jack attacks Locke. Jack takes Locke's gun, points it at Locke, and pulls the trigger, but it's not loaded.
With Hurley's help, Locke tries to convince them to go to the Barracks. Some do and some don't go with him.
Episode 4x2, Confirmed Dead
Locke wants to make a detour on their way to the Barracks. He wants to go by Jacob's cabin. Hurley thinks they are going the wrong way and Locke is surprised that Hurley knows about the cabin.They find Charlotte, who had parachuted onto the island, and Locke wants to keep moving, but keep her with them. Locke doesn't let Sawyer kill Ben.
Later, Ben steals Charlotte's gun and shoots her, but she is saved by a bulletproof vest. Locke concedes that Sawyer was right and prepares to kill Ben, until Ben says he has answers. Ben says that Charlotte and her team are there looking for Ben and he knows that because he has a man on their freighter.
Episode 4x3, The Economist
Locke leads the group to where Jacob's cabin should be, but it's not there. He picks up some of the ash. He leads the group to the Barracks, where he has Hurley pretend to be his prisoner so that he can get control of Sayid, Kate, and Sawyer.Locke has Sayid and Ben locked up in the game room and goes to talk to Sayid. Sayid persuades him to give Sayid Charlotte.
Episode 4x4, Eggtown
Locke has Ben locked up in the basement and tries to get information out of him, but can't.Kate asks Locke where Miles is so that she can talk to him and Locke says no. Kate finds out from Hurley and Sawyer tells Locke that Kate knows. They go to the boathouse where Miles is supposed to be, but he's gone. They find him and Kate coming out of the basement after Miles talked to Ben.
Locke wants to know what Miles and Ben said to each other and then tells Kate she's not welcome there anymore.
Locke puts a grenade in Miles' mouth as he's tied to the boathouse beams. As long as Miles holds the trigger down with his teeth, the grenade won't explode.
Episode 4x6, The Other Woman
Locke doesn't let Claire talk to Miles.When Locke goes to give Ben his food, Ben convinces him to let Ben go to the living room and show him something. Ben shows Locke a video of Charles Widmore beating one of Ben's men and says that it's Charles' freighter offshore and he is trying to exploit the island.
Episode 4x8, Meet Kevin Johnson
Locke brings Miles to the group and tells them that he won't keep any more secrets. Miles says that the freighter people are there for Ben and Ben says once they have him, they will kill everyone on the island.Outside, Sawyer confronts Locke to ask why he didn't tell about the money Ben promised to Miles. Locke says since there are no banks on the island he didn't think it worth mentioning.
Episode 4x9, The Shape of Things to Come
Locke plays a board game with Hurley and Sawyer. The phone rings and Locke reluctantly picks it up. The message says, "14J." Locke goes to where Ben is playing the piano and tells him about the phone call. Ben says, "They're here," and says they need to hunker down in Ben's house.Locke wants to go with Sawyer to get Claire, but Ben doesn't let him, saying, "It's very important that you survive what's about to happen here, John. So I need you to stay close to me."
Barricaded inside Ben's house, Locke asks why he has to survive and Ben says so that they can go together to Jacob's cabin. Locke says he doesn't know where it is and Ben says that Hurley does.
When Keamy's people come to get Ben, Sawyer wants to give Ben to them, but Locke doesn't think that's a good idea.
After the smoke monster attacks Keamy's people, Locke takes his people to the jungle and they wait for Ben to say goodbye to his daughter. Then they decide to go to Jacob's cabin, but Sawyer wants to take everyone back to the beach instead. Locke says that Hurley can't go with Sawyer and Sawyer defends Hurley. Hurley wants them both to put down their guns and says he'll go with Locke.
Episode 4x11, Cabin Fever
Locke travels with Hurley and Ben through the jungle in search of Jacob's cabin. The two of them look to Locke for a plan, so Locke has them make camp. While he sleeps, Locke dreams of Horace, who tells him that when Locke finds Horace, he'll find Jacob. Locke wakes and takes them to the Dharma pit.Locke searches through the skeletons until he finds Horace. He pulls a map to the cabin out of Horace's pocket.
Once they find the cabin, Ben says that he is not going in. Hurley wants to stay outside as well, so Locke goes in alone. Inside, he asks if the man sitting in the chair is Jacob. Christian says that he can speak on Jacob's behalf and his name is Christian.
Locke sees that Claire is there too and wants to know where the baby is. Christian says the baby is where he is supposed to be. Christian tells him they don't have time for all the questions and he should just ask the question that really matters. Locke asks how to save the island.
Locke goes outside and Ben asks him what was said. Locke says that they are supposed to move the island.
