While fishing, Desmond sees flashes of himself, Charlie, Jin, and Hurley trekking through the jungle. Hurley finds a wire. Charlie gets hit with an arrow in the throat and dies. Penny is in the flashes.
Wanting to see Penny, he decides to recreate what he saw in the flash.
