Rousseau disappears and Locke, Sayid, and Kate try to get Jack. Kate finds Jack alone in a room playing a piano. He tells her to get out of there because they are watching him. Men burst through the door with guns and hold Kate down. Jack tells them not to hurt her. More men come in with Sayid.
Later, Jack goes to talk to Kate and tells her that he made a deal with Ben and he is going home, leaving on the submarine in the morning. He promises he will come back for her, but Kate doesn't understand why he trusts those liars. Jack says he trusts them because she told him to when she asked him to save Sawyer.
Locke finds Ben and realizes that Ben knows all about him, even that he was in a wheelchair and how he got there. Ben knows that Locke intends to blow up the submarine and asks him not to. He says that his people need the illusion that they can leave at any time.
Locke goes to blow up the submarine and Ben says that Jack and Juliet are leaving and once they go there is no way to find the island, so whether the sub leaves or is blown up, the end result is the same.
Locke blows up the submarine anyway. He is captured and Ben comes to talk to him. Locke realizes that Ben wanted him to blow up the submarine the whole time and Ben admits that he was in a tough spot. Either he had to let Jack go and look weak, or he had to kill him and lose the respect of his people. Locke coming solved his problem.
Ben knows that Locke is on the island because it's the one place that his father can't find him. Ben takes Locke to a room where Locke's father is bound and gagged.
