The next day, Sawyer challenges Jack to a game of ping pong and finds out that Jack had a conversation with Kate the night before and that Jack had eaten with Juliet.
Sawyer goes to Kate and tells her not to use him, that all she has to do is ask.
Desmond has flashes of a wire, flashing lights in the sky, a parachute, and Penny. He also sees Charlie get killed after an arrow is shot into his throat.
In the hopes of finding Penny, Desmond gets Hurley, Charlie, and Jin to go with him to find the wire. They find the wire and later that night hear a helicopter. The helicopter crashes into the ocean, but something falls from the sky.
Desmond finds a pack with a book inside that is titled Catch 22, written in Portuguese. Inside the book is the same picture he has of he and Penny.
The next day, they try to find what fell from the sky. Desmond believes it might be Penny. Charlie steps on the wire and releases the arrow, but at the last second, instead of letting the arrow hit Charlie, Desmond tackles him and the arrow misses.
They continue on and find a woman hanging from parachute gear. Desmond cuts her down and takes off her helmet, expecting to find Penny. It's not Penny, but the woman says, "Desmond?"
