Karl comes to the beach camp and tells them that the Others are coming a night early, and they don't have time to finish setting up the dynamite wire.
Instead, they form a plan to shoot the three tents when the Others go to them looking for pregnant women.
Three shooters, Sayid, Bernard, and Jin are chosen.
Sayid and Jack argue about who will take the group to the radio tower and who will stay behind. Sayid says that Jack is their leader and he should go to the tower.
Charlie and Desmond go to the cable that goes into the ocean in search of The Looking Glass station where a signal is blocking Sayid's attempts to communicate with Naomi's boat.
Charlie volunteered to go on the dangerous mission after Desmond had told him of the flash he saw of Claire and Aaron getting on a rescue helicopter. The rescue came after Charlie went into a station and flipped a switch before he drowned.
Charlie accepted his fate in the hopes that Claire and Aaron would be rescued. At the last moment, Desmond offered to go, but Charlie knocked Desmond out and swam down to the station. He was surprised that the inside of the station was not flooded and there was air. He climbed out, thankful to be alive. Two woman came at him with guns trained on him.
In flashbacks, Charlie remembers the top 5 moments of his life. Number five was hearing himself on the radio for the first time.
Number four was his father teaching him to swim.
Number three was Liam giving Charlie the DS ring.
Number two was when he rescued a woman from a mugger and she called him a hero.
And number one was the night he met Claire, shortly after the plane crash.
