In flashbacks, Eko plays soccer with other children in his village. Thugs come and ask his younger brother, Yemi, to kill an old man. To spare his brother, Eko jumps in and does it. The thugs take him.
As an adult, Eko is a drug dealer. He wants his brother to help him get drugs out on a missionary plane. Yemi, a priest now, refuses, but Eko blackmails Yemi into signing a piece of paper to ordain Eko and his men. Eko and his men load the heroin into a small plane, hidden in Virgin Mary statues. Yemi asks Eko not to go. Yemi has called the military.
As the military shows, Yemi gets caught in the cross fire, and Eko puts him on the plane. One of Eko's men kicks Eko, and he falls to the ground and the plane leaves. The soldiers believe that Eko is a priest.
