They find dynamite and as Arzt explains how to properly handle it, he blows himself up.
They split up the dynamite between Kate and Locke and set off for the hatch. The unseen force comes and everyone but Locke runs. The unseen force comes upon Locke and he looks up into it, first with wonder, and then with terror. The unseen force grabs Locke by the feet and drags him to a big hole in the ground. Jack grabs him, but Locke wants Jack to let him go. Jack tells Kate to get the dynamite from his pack and throw it down the hole. When she does, the unseen force releases Locke. They take the dynamite and blow up the hatch door, revealing a long tunnel and broken ladder.
At the beach, everyone is moving to the caves for protection against "the Others". Only a few people remain on the beach and Rousseau shows up. She tells Charlie to get Sayid, then she knocks Claire out and steals the baby. Sayid and Charlie go after her, towards the black smoke.
Sayid and Charlie find Rousseau and get Claire's baby back. Rousseau thought she could trade Aaron for Alex, but there was no one at the black smoke fires when she got there.
On the raft, a boat comes, but instead of rescuing them, the three scruffy men and one lady steal Walt and blow up the raft while Michael, Sawyer, and Jin are in the water.
