Michael and his pregnant girlfriend happily shop for baby furniture. After the baby is born, Walt's mother takes him and leaves for Amsterdam for a huge job opportunity. Michael is upset and she doesn't let him see Walt anymore. Michael is hit by a car and spends months in the hospital. Walt's mother wants to pay his medical bills in exchange for Michael letting her husband adopt Walt.
At 10 years old, Walt is upset that his parents aren't listening to him and suddenly a bird slams against the window and dies. Michael goes to Australia to get Walt after Walt's mother dies.
