Jacob and Mother

Jacob and Mother

ABC/Mario Perez
The question is: In episode 6x15, Across the Sea, Mother said to Jacob, "You are like me now." Jacob said those words to Jack (Ep: 6x16, What They Died For) and Jack said those words to Hurley (Ep: 6x17, The End). What specifically did it mean to be like Mother? We know it means they are the protector of the light, but what kinds of powers did they posses?
  • Her powers included protector, guardian, having long life, and the ability to make up rules that will have effect as long as you’re alive.
  • For all the perceived powers possessed by the individual with the title of protector of the island, the human factor limits who or what that protector is able to do (ie; the freedom of choice). The protector is able to set the rules of his or her domain (within limits—as per MIB’s final solution for a loophole in the killing of Jacob), but apparently when he or she has contact with outsiders, they cannot directly influence how that outsider behaves in a certain situation, this is left to the individual’s choice of conquering their flaws in the real world (or not), the protector can however set up scenarios that can bring out the best (or worst) of that individual by trial.
