- Like a good player of chess, Jacob was 3 or 4 moves ahead of everyone else. Jacob sent Jack to the past to cause the incident, making the Swan Station necessary. Then he got Desmond to the island and knew how to set things in motion so that Desmond wouldn't push the button and the electromagnetism would be released, pulling the plane out of the sky. It was meant to happen, so even if Desmond would have pushed the button, the island would have found another way to bring the Losties to the island.
- Maybe Kelvin was actually Jacob.
