The question is: Is the
Lost island real?
- The island was real. Everything that happened to them on the island was real. The flashbacks and the flash forwards were real. The flash-sideways, however, were the afterlife of the characters. If the island wasn’t real, how did they meet? Why were they supposed to spend the afterlife together? Why were they so important in each others' lives?
- The island was a transition between life and death, as evidenced by Desmond saying, "See you in another life." When Christian said, "Everything that happened to you was real," he meant real to them. All the mysterious things that happened on the island (like Yemi's plane crashing there, Anthony Cooper showing up, and the Dharma Initiative can be explained if the island were a transition.
- The island is real and is a portal to the light and needs protecting or everyone would get to the light without being tested and proving one’s soul. With that said the ancients or our ancestors would have built some kind of defense. The ancients learned a way of harnessing the ENERGY from the LIGHT and used that to protect it. The time travel was a side effect of the mystical island’s light energy, affecting the stability on the rocks of the island once it was not harnessed any longer, thus, moving the chosen ones randomly through time.
