Locke's Previous Flashbacks

Flashback Scene 5
Locke and Eddie walk through a forest with rifles, hunting deer. Eddie asks if Locke's talked to Mike and Jan yet, and Locke says Eddie can go to the greenhouse after supper and they will explain everything. Eddie thinks that's great.

Locke points behind Eddie and Eddie turns and points his rifle. "You see something?"

Locke points his rifle at Eddie's back. Eddie turns around. "What are you doing?"

"Did you know it'd be me?"

"What?"

"In the truck? Did you know it would be me driving? Did they choose me?"

He says he doesn't know what Locke is talking about and slowly starts to lift the gun. Locke says he didn't load that one and that Eddie should just answer the question.

"Yeah, they chose you, John. Because you hadn't been here long, didn't have a criminal record, and the psych profile said you'd be amenable for coercion. Lower the gun, John, okay? This isn't personal." He starts to back away and Locke tells him to stop. "You're not going to shoot me. You're a good man. You're a farmer."

"Nope, I'm not a farmer," Locke says, "I was a hunter. I'm a hunter. He raises the gun. Eddie walks away. Locke tries to shoot, but can't.

Disability

Episode 3x13, The Man From Tallahassee - Flashback 1

Name?" a woman says.

"John Locke," he says.

The woman writes down his information. "Marital status, Mr. Locke?"

"Single."

"Girlfriend?"

"No," he says.

"Are your parents living?"

"I was raised in foster care. I never really knew my parents." Locke is in a cubical, others are in the background.

"Have you ever considered seeking out your real parents?"

"I don't see how that's relevant."

"It's relevant, Mr. Locke, because if the government is going to continue to pay your disability insurance, I have to figure out whether or not your condition has improved. So, how's your appetite?"

"Fine."

"I see you stopped submitting your therapy bills for reimbursement."

"That's because I stopped going. Waste of time."

She stamps his paper Benefits Suspended and says that it's only a temporary suspension. "As soon as you resume your sessions, you can reapply."

"You think I'm temporarily disabled?"

"Depression can be temporary, yes. And seeing as you've seen fit to stop going to therapy, I guess you're all better."

Locke gets up. "Guess I am." He walks out.

Peter Talbot

Episode 3x13, The Man From Tallahassee - Flashback 2
Locke eats a TV Dinner and watches TV. He answers a knock at the door and sees a young man. Locke says, "I'm sorry, no solicitors."

"I'm not trying to sell you anything," the man says. "Listen, my name is Peter Talbot and I just need a couple of minutes to talk to you."

"Talk about what?" Locke asks.

"My mother, actually. I think she might be in some trouble."

"You've got the wrong John Locke," he says and starts to shut the door.

"How many kidneys do you have?" Peter asks.

John opens the door. A few minutes later, as he makes coffee, Locke listens to Peter's story.

Peter says, "She met him two months ago. Love at first site, is what she said. The guy was charming, sweet, funny. His name's Adam Seward. He's a retired computer entrepreneur from Ontario."

Locke hands Peter a cup of coffee and Peter continues. "Anyway, he had something special. My mom just went ga-ga for him right out of the gate. After two months of knowing him she agrees to marry the guy. Something about him, something in my gut, told me he was after something, so I had to check him out."

"Well I'm not sure what any of this has to do with me," Locke says.

"Well what this has to do with you, Mr. Locke, is you donated one of your kidneys to Adam Seward, only his name was different back then. He used to be ." Peter hands Locke a picture of Anthony and Mrs. Talbot. "All I could find were his medical records and I saw that he was the recipient of a kidney transplant from you. So I figured, hey, someone gave the guy his kidney. How bad could he be? Right?"

Locke looks at the picture and then says, "Well, it was an anonymous donation. I never met him."

Peter looks down, then back at Locke. "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry, I can't help you." Locke hands the picture back.
